www.dvdtalk.com...did it start anyone else's collection?

So I really wasn't into DVD's that much until I came here some 3 years ago. I had a few sure, but didn't really know anything about the medium or the gooey goodness it holds until i happened (and when i say happened, i by chance came across it in some kind of search) upon this site.

i credit so much of my beginnings and still in enjoying my hobby to the fullest. without DVDTalk i honestly don't think i would be that into DVD's. maybe, but not as much.

anyone else think this site started your collections?

DVDTalk didn't start my collection but it enriched it.

There are many movies I have in my collection that I would not have heard of, thanks to recommendations from some of the members here.

That about sums it up for me. When I first got my DVD player I was thinking more along the lines of buying just a few movies. Now thanks to DVDtalk I'm close to 1100 (which doesn't include the ones I've given/sold/traded over the years).

It fueled the fire for sure. I had about 30-40 when I found this place, around 1400 now. I'm guessing I'd have a couple of hundred at most if I hadn't stumbled upon this place (but I'd have paid as much for those 200 as I have paid for 4-500)

I got addicted to this site from the reccomendations, mainly in the forum (and a few reviews that pop-up on the main page from time to time). I always said I would never join a forum and I have a ton of posts here (don't know how many as I never look but I know it's a decent amount).

I don't post as much as I use to because I started getting to the point where a lot of members on here are already.....overly critical and expect WAY too much out of a flick. Hey it happens and I'm not bashing anyone, I'm just saying that as soon as it started happening with me, I pulled back a little.

But yeah, this site did contribute to me going broke from time to time in the past

It didn't start my collection. But it's thanks to all the insane people here with thousands of DVDs that I don't feel guilty owning nearly 700. Were I just comparing to the people I know personally, I would probably feel too guilty to be such a "freak". You guys make me feel more normal. So thanks!

I guess I don't feel so bad sitting at 200 DVDs.

It didn't start it, though it was a motivating factor once I started to buy DVDs (I was looking for a DVD Review site, and this one was first on the list). It also moved me away from buying DVDs at full price, and into the world of bargain hunting.

Did not start the collection, but it was like a nitro boost for it. I know without this place I would be under 500 - Instead i am at 1100+ and I have sold several hundred.

I had started buying DVDs just before the site started, but this place really kicked started my collecting. In the beginning the site was mostly about all the bargains at Reel, 800.com, etc and I checked it several times a day to grab deal after deal. It may not have been the addiction it became without DVDTalk.

It didn't start my collection, but I can't tell you how many films I learned about from this site. That, double dip announcements, and just shooting the breeze about DVD topics. I love this site.

this site hasn't started my collection, but it definitely expanded it... I keep a list of what to get every week, and this site DEFINITELY enhances the list of titles every week

I got a DVD Rom drive in Dec 1998, but didn't get huge into DVDs until I found this site in May 1999 and found all the crazy bargains online.

Though I guess I never got into it that big given I still have a collection in the low 200's 7 years later.

I guess I'll be the first to say YES! It wasn't that I wouldn't have gotten into DVDs (I was working at Suncoast at the time), but the crazy deals that I found on here prompted me to begin buying BEFORE I even had a player!

Now I'm somewhere between 350-400 (I guess I need to update DVDAF and check!). Sure, my habits have slowed down since the hey-day, but they are still there!

No, DVD talk didn't start me off with my collection either, but it does enhance it. I also enjoy very much conversing with the other people about movies, DVD's that we all enjoy that has become a daily habit with me. Thank you to DVDtalk and the people who write on it, it's a wonderful thing. I haven't counted my DVD collection lately but I should be at approxamately 425, maybe i'll break down later on for a more accurate count but for now i'd say 425 as a guess.

I'm in the same boat. I owned a few DVDs and came to DVDTalk because I thought one was defective and wanted to make sure (I only had a crappy player). Once I started being able to buy DVDs on the cheap ... well ....
