Did you know this about Duck Hunt?

Everyone was mentioning Duck Hunt in the other thread, and I thought I would ask you guys since you're all more serious gamers. Everytime I inform people of this they never have any idea, and think I'm lying. I remember that if you had the controller plugged into the other slot you could actually control the ducks flying around. I used to discretely do that when my brother was shooting, and he would always go insane wondering why it was so much more difficult on his turns.

Is this common knowledge? I never thought it was a big secret, but I have never run into anyone who has known this.

It is true if I remember correctly.

edit:

from gamefaqs

This is the only mode in the game in which two people could play at once. The
person with the Light Gun is the hunter, while the other person with the
controller is the ducks. Using the D-pad, the second player could move the
ducks around the screen, providing a much greater challenge to the hunter.
Whenever the hunter does not pass the Pass Line on the meter, the game is over
and the two players switch characters

Indeed, I recall this well. The ducks did not move "linearly" but you could veary their general flight paths.

Gun Hogan? Do you mean Hogan's Alley?

You could completely control the ducks. You are correct. Problem was, when you got to good for your friend with the gun, he would just walk up to the TV and place the gun on the screen and cheat. And yes, I did it too

Except that the Wii isn't out yet. He probably meant that he wanted to try it out right now rather than waiting half a year to try it on the Wii.

Probably not, but you could use the Wii controller as a pseudo-light gun. It should work just as well.

I also discovered this by accident one day as a child and used to control the ducks on the sly while my parents or younger brothers and sisters were playing the game. Then with friends we used to challenge each other since we all knew the trick.

I knew as well, although the control of the actual ducks wasn't that great.

Yeah, if I remember you had to "fight" what the CPU was doing to move it as well.

Yeah, that's true. However on the later levels when the ducks really started to pick up speed, just randomly pulling them back and forth really made it damn near impossible to hit them.

There was a Duck Hunt manual? I don't really remember. I probably never even noticed when I was ripping open the Nintendo box with glee to play it.

When I was first getting into gaming I guess I didn't read manuals. Apparently, from this thread, and people in general, I wasn't alone.

When anyone got a manual, you brough it to school. I remember kids debating Mega Man 2 for weeks on end. I used to take my manuals on car rides, etc. I stopped doing that sometime after the SNES.
