While window shopping at circuitcity.com earlier this month I saw this listing.

I ordered it 4/02 and received an e-mail stating that it was on backorder. I never expected it to ship. I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived last week. Not sure if they still have it, but it might be worth a try.

Good deal since the Criterion homepage lists it as out of print.

The box set containing The Bank Dick and several other titles has a notably better transfer, the only real reason to pick this up is if you are testing the waters of W.C. Fields and dont want to spend the bigger bucks for the box, or if you're a Criterion completist. When I bought this title it was because of the former, picked it up for like $18 after a coupon at Borders a few weeks back, just something to keep in mind.

I checked out comparison screen captures of the two releases, and it didn't look all that different to me..

You would be better off getting the WC Fields boxset. Are they selling the the 6 short film collection for the same amount? That would be a better purchase.

It doesn't matter. Some people will pay through the nose for a Criterion version eventhough there is a better version out there.
