Pathfinder - Karl Urban

This looks like it could be good.

trailer:
http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/path...7RTjQtc3ZfVXcA

Synopsis:
A thousand years in the past, a young Viking boy is accidentally left behind during a skirmish between the Vikings and Native Americans. The Native Americans raise the boy as their own, but when their village is wiped out from a Viking raid, the adopted Viking becomes his people's savior in battling the Norsemen.

It's directed by Marcus Nispel (Texas Chainsaw Massacre Remake). I'm sure it'll be exciting. Karl Urban's movie choices have been a tad up and down. He was in the LOTR movies, then followed that with Chronicles of Riddick, then wisely chose Bourne Supremacy, only to follow that up with Doom. I hope this is one of the good choices.

Yeah we saw the preview for this at the theater the other day. It was the first I had ever heard of it. It looks like an incredible action flick. Definitely adding it to my summer movie schedule.

but his best role, was in the very offbeat New Zealand 2000 film:

People in the theatre I was at, were laughing at the trailer. I think this one could either be a very cool, stylish action pic, or could be a so bad it's good B movie. Frankly, I'll take either, should be entertaining regardless.

I'm sold, I just like the idea that it takes place way back when. Even though this is obviously not a historical picture, It still is something you don't see in movies much (ever?)

"run and you may live; fight and you may die"

uh...i think i've heard that before, almost verbatim.

and then there's the shot near the end:

someone's been keeping up with their "historical" epics

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw the preview, mostly because this movie was nowhere on my radar. How rare is it that you see a preview for a movie you didn't even know existed?

Ancient Viking's fighting it out....as long as its more about Urban fighting the hordes and less about his life as the "outside" it could be entertaining.

I think mdc is right, it could either be really good, or venture into good B movie territory, either way, something I'll be checking out.

This has a "Reign of Fire" vibe to it. May share the same audience as that film.

Oh goody. Another big brave white man rescues the poor helpless natives flick.

Vikings vs Indians is still a pretty good premise, though.

Hate the trailer, but the premise sounds interesting and I'm curious to see what Nispel can do with it (I actually liked the Texas Chainsaw remake).

So I was planning on going to see this at the end of the month, but it appears to have been moved to September 8th?

I know there isn't much interest in this, but apparently Pathfinder has now been pushed to January of 2007? What the hell is going on with this thing? I was looking forward to checking it out. Oh well.

At least it squashed Harlin's Northmen film (hopefully). Northmen has been at WB for almost 10 years and someone else beat them to the punch

At Comic Con, basically Nispel said... hey I haven't seen a Viking pic in a while after not being able to get a gladiator movie off then Gladiator comes out.. then not getting a pirate movie off and PotC came out.. go figure.

Really? I didn't notice him in the trailer. I hope he and Russell Means have ample screentime.

Looks pretty damn entertaining to me. I like Urban and I've enjoyed most of the recent films he's been in. I'm also a big fan of The 13th Warrior and this looks to have a similar vibe going on. I don't know if I'll bother to catch this in a theater, but if it gets decent enough reviews it might warrant a blind buy once the DVD comes out.

I'm wondering the same thing myself. Is it still coming to theatres or will it now be straight to video?

Looks like the new date is 1/12/07. Probably a smart move. This probably would have gotten crushed during the Summer schedule.
