Jesus of Nazareth: Best Jesus Movie Ever!

On easter morning, i was watching Jesus of Nazareth on the History Channel and it had an indepth script. The actor looked just like jesus(from the paintings of jesus)

For anyone who saw this movie miniseries , what did you think about it?

For an overall movie, I would agree. I also like The Greatest Story Ever Told because Max von Sydow plays Jesus. Then I like to watch Strange Brew right after.

Why was this moved from the TV Forum to the Movie Forum? It was a TV Mini-Series.

Wasn't it?

Gonna second that, even though the Jesus in this film was more like the Jesus in Mark's Gospel...but that's getting technical.

my parents taped the movie when it came on the second time in the early 80's.
i loved it, still do. used to have the biggest crush on the apostles John and Phillip. and olivia hussey was very pretty playing Mary, she didn't look like she aged a bit since Romeo and Juliet and that was 10 years earlier!

it was my favorite movie growing up except that right after Mary and Joseph confront boy Jesus in the temple until the scene where Jesus is eating at Matthew's house, my dad had taped an episode of "The Geraldo Rivera Show" for unknown reasons. so for 13 years i had no idea what happened between those scenes.

my dad has taped weird stuff over my sisters' and my old videotapes. we found one of our old disney cartoon tapes and right in the middle of a donald duck cartoon, cuts in "yentl'.

One of my favorite all-time movies, and the filmed version of a British production that hit Broadway a few years ago is also excellent.

Jesus movies have been ruined for me, thanks to Monty Python. When I was watching David Bowie playing Pontius Pilate, I kept expecting him to have that crazy speech impediment.

Count me as another one here. I have both DVD's and saw the show live here in San Diego with Sebastian Bach as Jesus and the original (from the movie) Judas, Carl Anderson.
Despite my seemingly completely opposite tastes in movies the 1973 Jesus Christ Superstar is in my top 5 movies of all time.

(I can also go on record as perhaps the worst Pilate ever in a High School play)

I'm thinking maybe Jesus of Nazareth? I rented it from Netflix. The transfer was horrible. Great miniseries though. I would probably buy it if there was a decent transfer....

Guess it got moved to the Movie Forum cause all the comparisons have been movie-related.

I love Last Temptation as a movie, and I loved how they portrayed the diciples as seeing Jesus as insane the first few times he spoke. I just always thought that's they way they would have reacted at first. Obviously they didn't keep that belief since later on all of them but John died for the cause. I loved Willem's portrayal as Jesus. It definitly isn't my favorite film based on the life of Jesus, since all we have to go on is the Bible, and it is far from the story of the gospels. It was still great as a story and the last 20 minutes of "what if" was great

Don't you refer to Jesus as " The J Man" ever again. You are not speaking about a hip hop music artist, rapper, or any other ordinary man with a moniker. He is God!
