Uncomfortable Scenes

Warning: Extremely minor spoilers ahead.

I was watching Reservoir Dogs again last night. Now, I'm no stranger to horror/gore/violence, but I just can't stomach the ear scene. I actually fast-forwarded from the moment Mr. Blonde and the cop were left alone (well, almost alone) to the point where the cop is err...spared. I just can't stand that scene - it's too realistic or something.

So I'm just curious if there are scenes in movies that you just can't watch again. It could be a horror/violent movie or just a scene that makes you very uncomfortable to the point where you won't watch it (ala Brokeback Mountain).

Saving Private Ryan

The scene where Upham basically wets himself on the staircase while the other dude is getting knifed. Just pisses me off so much I just fast forwardt through it.

The swimming pool sex scene in "Showgirls." It was scary the way Jessie Spano was thrashing about, not sexy. I was so excited, so excited, so.... scared.

Almost anything in "Kids," especially then end with Casper raping ther passed out AIDS girl. Hard to watch.

I became immune to that after going to see The Crying Game...with my dad (neither of us knew what it was about).

i never understood why the ear scene was so disturbing. i actually thought it was pretty stupid. the only uncomfortable scene i can remember was the opening of irreversible. just the spinning camera and low hum in the background made me nauseated.

also in Irreversible, the rape scene is just uncomfortable. Surpases I Spit on Your Grave and The Accused.

of course, when Tom Hanks does his own dentistry with the skate in "Cast Away"is very cringe inducing.

The curb scene in American History X always bothers me, and I don't think I'll ever be able to see it again, even though the movie overall is outstanding.

Not the same type of uncomfortable scene all of you are talking about, but what about Swingers. When he gets the waitress's number and then calls her at midnight multiple times. C'mon who wasn't cringing at that scene.

The scene in Swingers when the main character repeatedly leaves messages on an answering machine.

Also, the sex scenes in Wedding Crashers watched when watched with my mom.

I third that. Yeesh.

For me, Ben Stiller in just about every movie he's been in. Absolutely cringe-inducing. With the exception of Zooolander, Starsky and Hutch, and Dodgeball. I actually like him, but the "embarrassing situations" style of humour that doesn't do it for me. I'm thinking mainly of Something about Mary (I hate that movie) and Meet the Parents. I couldn't watch 5 minutes of it.

Well, it made me uncomfortable too.

Spoiler:
Seeing that decomposed body, and later the scene with the tire iron were disturbing.

I don't like graphic bone breaks or tendons severing - I can almost feel that kind of thing. I have no problems with on-screen violence, just those kinds of injuries and how they seem to be "easy" to show.

I'd throw out the scene from Pet Cemetary where Gage cuts Fred Gwynn's Achilles tendon - makes my legs tense up just thinking about it.

And I'd have to disagree about the "ear scene" in Resevoir Dogs. I didn't see the movie until it was out on video and I'd heard nothing but horrible things about that scene. But when I finally saw it, I thought there was nothing to it. They didn't even show it, but panned the camera away right before he cuts it off. I've seen worse stuff on network crime dramas.

I can't watch movies that have kids suffering in them. I once watched "Grave of the Fireflies". It's one of the best movies I've ever seen...and I never want to watch it again. It still bothers me.

In The Lord of the Flies, the campfire scene where the boys go berzerk on what they think is the Beast. The sheer mindless brutality of it.
