Tales from the Crypt Presents Ritual ----> May 2nd

2001's The Ritual starring Jennifer Grey and Tim Curry will be released May 2nd. Originally intended to be produced by Universal as the third installment of a trilogy of Tales From The Crypt movies but plans were scrapped after Bordello of Blood bombed in theaters. So the Tales from the Crypt name was dropped and was planned on being released as a standalone movie. Now the TFTC name will be added again when released on DVD.

cool. They mentioned this in the special features of the season 3 DVD. I didn't think it would be so soon.

It has been released overseas for some time now, I have it and it isn't too bad. Better than Bordello of Blood that is for sure.

I always thought that "Bordello of Blood" was a great movie.

I loved Demon Knight but despised Bordello of Blood. I wasn't even aware of this movie...does it have the cryptkeeper in it? If not, I wouldn't consider it Tales From the Crypt no matter what label they slap on it, but I'd probably check it out anyway.

I did too. I thought it was a blast. Best of all, I saw it at the movie theater on my 18th birthday and I was the only mofo in the theater. It was like my own screening, lol.

Back on topic, I'll give this a rent when it comes out.

I was thinking the exact same thing, if the Cryptkeeper's not in it, then it'd be a gyp to call it a TFTC movie. I'm sure the movie didn't have the Cryptkeeper in it originally, but it would be cool if they added him just for the DVD release since it's gonna be titled as such.

Isn't this movie a remake of I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE?

I guess it all depends on when they decided to "switch gears" and drop the Crypt ties. If they didn't change plans until late in the game, then it's quite possible that Cryptkeeper wrap-around would've already been filmed, and when they changed their plans that they just decided to leave them out of the movie.

If that's the case, then those segments could probably be edited back in quite easily. The footage would probably still be lying around in the crypt, er, vault.

On the other hand, if no Cryptkeeper segments were ever filmed, then they'd have to go back and record those now (at presumably some expense), otherwise, tying it into Crypt would make no sense. It just ain't Crypt without the Crypt Keeper!

I concur 100% with this. Demon Knight was one of the very best horror movies ever made in my view.

Bordello of Blood was an asinine disgrace to that legacy. No wonder it bombed.

I also would only be interested in Ritual if it has the Cryptkeeper in it.

Same here. It wasn't a masterpiece by any means, but it was a fun horror-comedy nonetheless.

Always about the money. Just because the sequel didn't do well financially, part 3 is automatically labeled. Oh well, hopefully the Crypt Keeper will be in it.

Can't wait!
