Wal*Mart - Capote/In Cold Blood

Didn't see any info on this, but feel free to delete if a duplicate.

My local Wal*Mart in Canal Winchester, OH has a two-pack of Capote and In Cold Blood on sale for $20. The cheapest online price for In Cold Blood is $15 and change ( according to price search ). I'm not sure if ICB is due for a price drop, but it seems like a pretty good deal. I might go back and pick one up for myself.

Seems like a great deal. A second movie for $3, its online to. I bought it, I bought Capote last night at BB, the best price I could find. It was $17.99 I think maybe $16.99 anyway ICB is another movie for the collection anyway. Would be interesting to see them both. Have to take back the one from BB.

I already picked one set up as well.

What was really strange is that the regular price for CAPOTE is about the same as the two-pack!

That is strange in normal stores, but this IS Wal-Mart. Sometimes I scratch my head about their strategy, but then again I now check Wal-Mart for new DVD prices.

In Cold Blood is a masterpiece and five times better than Capote ever could be so yeah that is a good deal. I saw Capote and liked PSH of course but that was about it. In Cold Blood is a completely different overwhelming experience.

BTW, the cheapest on-line price I could find for the movie In Cold Blood was 15.99, so the 2-pack is a great deal. Picked one up tonight - thanks FM!

I have to absolutely disagree. I watched this recently on HBO a couple days ago and it was far from good. There was no tension or suspense. There was absolutely nothing original to the movie except for a few unique camera shots. The acting was dull, flashback scenes were poorly done. The entire film was poorly done. In Cold Blood can't even compare to Capote. Capote was one of the best films I saw all year. In Cold Blood was one of the worst.

The Walmart in Upland, CA was selling the 2 pack of Capote/In cold blood for $14.99. I picked one up. Great deal considering we were going to rent In cold blood from Hollywood Video for three or so dollers

Just an FYI, it appears that the video quality of the print used for Capote was a bit on the dirty side, so it doesn't look as good as it could have looked on DVD.

"In Cold Blood" is on Roger Ebert's list of Great Movies and Leonard Maltin gives it 4 stars, while "Capote" is the only best picture nominee from last year that I have not yet seen, so this sounds like a fantastic deal.

Thanks!

As regards the comments on "In Cold Blood," its been a long time since I saw an opinion on a film I so violently disagreed with! Brooks' film seems as good today as when I first saw it 20 years ago.

I got this today at Walmart for $13.87! Wow! Capote + In Cold Blood for $13.87 3 days into the next week after the release is nuts! Returning my single disc version today to Best Buy that I paid $18.

Where are they sticking these two-packs? A stand-alone display somewhere or in the new release aisle or what?

My wife picked up my copy. She said they had the single discs on endcaps but you had to look for the two-pack. As the price was the same for either version, that's an effort well worth making!

Very poor if you don't know there's a two-pack, though - I wonder how many people came away with Capote alone, oblivious to the two-pack deal.

Didn't see the two-pack in Walmart this morning, so I just picked up the single disc.

Walmart seems to be keeping the sell price on many new titles pretty low. Capote, History of Violence and Good Night and Good Luck were all 14.87. Pretty good for new releases after the first week.

They also had a lot of 2-packs of Memoirs Of A Geisha. I saw it bundled with both House Of Flying Daggers and Something's Gotta Give, and both were $20.

Has anyone seen the Memoirs of a Geisha/ House of Flying Daggers two-pack with Memoirs in Widescreen? They only had a few in store and they were all Full Screen. The picture on the website shows Full Screen. The two-pack with Something's Gotta Give comes with either Full or Wide for Geisha.

Thanks

Bob,

That is one of the ones I saw. It had the widescreen version (red banner).

Grabbed this two pack today.

Also, they had a ton of new stuff in the $5.50 bin. Good stuff. But I'm saving my money for DVD purchases next week.

My Walmart didn't have this. They had the Geisha/Daggers, the 50 cent/Shaft, and a few others, but not the one I actually wanted. This Walmart is priced high anyway, with all new releases at 19.97.
