Does it come with a cabinet to hold it along with all my previous editions of the movie?

I don't own either the Superbit or the 3-Disc DE. If this one comes in DTS w/ some of the commentary & supplementals from the DE, I'll bite.

Well, Sony has hit paydirt with me for DD'ing as it has successfully split up the four reasons I would buy/upgrade a DVD:

1) the movie itself
2) DD/DTS/anamorphic upgrade
3) full length documentaries (virtually the only extra I care about)
4) extended version (not just a 30 second "unrated" edition)

Looks like my other three editions will be getting company.

Sad that I would consider buying this when I haven't watched the other 2 versions I have.

I'm perfectly ok with my 3 disc SE. I wonder if this has been approved by Ridley Scott though.

The release date alone is a sign not to fall for this. I'll wait for BR thank you very much. (of course you know we'll be getting seperate bare-bones, SE, and DC versions...)

I'm with ya. I'd like to know if Riddley Scott is handling this, or if it's just a Sony moneygrab with no director's involvement.

Most likely I'll just skip it since I own the 3-disc set already, and pick this up when it comes out in HD format... this would look GREAT in HD.

OMG, one of my favorite Ridley Scott films, 1492: Conquest Of Paradise has not even been released on dvd, and all his other films have been to my knowledge released on dvd, at least once, and some of them twice or three times like this. This is just plain absurd.

I love Black Hawk Down, it's one of Scott's best films, but I love the 3 disc set and have no use for this at all.

Yet..... that 1 Scott film can't get a release on dvd? Wtf?

If you want DTS and a great transfer why not consider the Region 3 Superbit? It's Region 1 playable, Anamorphic (according to the box), DTS and two discs of documentaries and extras. I got mine on eBay a couple of years ago. Plus you get the soundtrack.

Have that plus the R1 version for the commentaries.

Still thinking about this.

I have a feeling that this is just an extended cut like the other war pics (The Patriot, Casualties Of War) they are putting out. They are not "Director's Cuts", just the original film with the deleted scenes thrown back in.
Maybe Sony is releasing this in conjuction with the "Kingdom Of Heaven - Director's Cut" DVD due out around the same time.
I'll be keeping my 3 disc DVD.

BTW...I'm going to need a much more credible source (axelmusic?) before I can truly believe this is happening. Obviously, I wouldn't put this whole "director's cut" thing past Sony, I just want to see a more reliable website posting the info.

There are some HD discs coming out the same day supposedly as well.

Just cause it's 666 doesn't mean it's not legitimate.

I'll stick with my original release, I'm sure this is just a hack & splice like they did with Tears of the Sun.
