Big Love "Viagra Blue" 3/19/06

Spoiler:

Nicki gets sidetracked after scolding Bill for disrespecting Barb on her "day," though Barb eventually gets her payback. Worried about Roman's threats, Bill looks into installing a security system at his home(s); Franklin's hospital convalescence ends with a visit from Roman and a revealing quarrel with his son; Bill's business associate, Don Embry, drops by for dinner, and confides to Bill his expansion plans; Marge presses Bill to give her a car of her own; Sarah forges a new friendship; and Bill compensates for rising demands at home.

I'm not totally hooked yet, but I'll certainly give it another shot tonight.

edit : Gratuitous but yummy Margene picture:

It's "God Only Knows" by the Beach Boys.

This may be the dirtiest show I've ever seen on HBO.

I was thinking during the opening credits how someone who doesnt know the Beach Boys would be facinated by this song, and want to find out more...its off the Pet Sounds album...which is a bonus, because Pet Sounds

1)Is a great album
2)Was so good it made Lennon/Mcartney so jealous they went out and made Sgt. Peppers to try to top it
3)While listening, you can think to yourself 'Im actually listening to a piece of work that drove a musical genius insane, from which he has never recovered'

What exactly DID Bill do out on the streets at 14 years old?!?

I don't know, but first thing that came to my mind was a male prostitue. It's just the way Billy said his line and reacted.

Agreed, really enjoyed this episode. Last week's was a little slow, but it had a lot to set up.

Yeah, I enjoyed that episode a lot. Interesting to see where this one leads. I have a hard time following the older boys, but other than that, it's not too tough for such a large cast. I think the three wife dynamic will play out in a very interesting way and I'm really impressed with Jeane Tripplehorn, who I don't think I've seen in anything since Waterworld. She's very good here.

As I posted last week, I consider God Only Knows perhaps the greatest pop song of all time and it thrills me to hear it in surround sound every week. That opening credit sequence is pretty weird, but at least the music is so wonderful.

Harry Dean Stanton is one of the most menacing actors around. He gives me the creeps.

I didn't see the partner also being a polygamist. That one was a surprise. And he's dating again!

Gotta say it's a little disappointing to see the Nudity warning prior to the episode and then discover it's only Bill Paxton. I'm paying my subscription fees, I deserve more than that.

Man the casting director of this show must be a fan of Veronica Mars.

Another decent ep. Next weeks looks like it'll be really good.

Thought it started off well last week and loved it again. I'm totally hooked. Many interesting characters, great actors, and terrific story telling.

Sunday has become a beast of a television night with Housewives, Anatomy, Sopranos, and Big Love.

On no other night do we watch more than 2.

I wonder if I'll ever be in the mood for adding a second and third wife. I might also tell my doc that I'm having "problems" because now I'm curious about what it's like to take on of those blue pills.

And it was odd the way the camera shot tightened in on Bill and the security guy in that earlier scene. Made me think something odd was going on.

Solid episode last night. Loved the conversation about Don's "expansion" plans.

I also liked the fact that the dad threw him out at 14 because old men run off the young men in order to marry the young women

I found myself amazed that after 30 minutes of last night's episode that I'd only seen 90 minutes of the series. It doesn't drag on, but they pack alot of stuff into that show. I'm already hooked, but a shorter bathrobe wouldn't hurt.

If only it were full frontal and not just ass-shots every time, though.

I hate to say it, but the overdosing on suburban "domesticity" just makes my eyes glaze over during this show. Although I know, logistically, that an extended family of this type would be all about the laundry and the cooking and the cleaning and the taking care of the children, I find myself completely zoning out during any scene involving the wives.

The sexual aspects of the show are hugely, hugely exagerrated. I don't for one minute believe the man would be expected to perform his "husbandly duties" in that fashion every single night with every single wife. That sensationalistic aspect of the show I expect to fade away really quickly. Secondly, viagra doesn't work instantaneously, like they show in the series. It's got an hour lag-time. Thirdly, I thought Mormons (although these obviously aren't strict "LDSers") were opposed to drugs of any kind - including caffeine, tobacco, aspirin and certainly erectile dysfunction drugs.

Lastly, on a purely hormonal level, I just wanna see the partner with the flat-top in all "his glory." And pronto. Purdy pleeze.

Mormons most certainly take medicinal drugs (asprin, prescription drugs, etc). Perhaps you're confusing them with Christian Scientists?

In fact, Utah has one of the highest prescription rates for Prozac, attributed to "Mormon Housewife" syndrome (alluded to in this episode and explored even more in Angels in America).

That really does happen alot in these polygamist enclaves. The daughters tend to get swapped with neighbors as new wives, and the sons tend to get thrown out of the society or run away.

When I had a year-long "Hamlet in the schools" gig with Utah Shakespeare Festival, we did a two-week stop in the polygamist community/town just outside St. George. I noticed a distinct lack of hot young men, unlike the Mormon community at large.

Wasnt sure what to think about this show after last weeks show. Thought it was ok, but a little slow. This weeks show was very good, and now have 2 great shows to watch on Sunday nights. Does Rob Thomas have anything to do with this show at all. Because when Kristen Bell does a cameo, Im calling Shenanigans.

Thank you... I was thinking "Wait a minute..."

And now that he has completed that recording the way he'd hoped to, he's saying that he is saner. I really liked the 2004 release!

I felt the same as FVSD above, first show entertained me but did not suck me in, 2nd show sucked me right in.

I'm sure everyone realises the girl in the burger place is Napoleon's crush in Napoleon Dynamite correct?
