I Dream of Jeannie cast

I Dream of Jeannie cast
Today on the View, Larry Hagman said that the main cast has been picked for the I Dream of Jeannie: Kate Hudson and Jimmy Fallon.
Oh, well...I was hoping it might make up for the horrendous Bewitched movie, but I guess not.

Wow. Both leads are horribly misscast. And who thought this'd be a good idea anyway? Bewitched was cute and all but I don't think it was enough of a success to warrant all these remakes.

Pitiful news.

Let's not forget one very important thing.
This is not made to appeal to fans of the show in any way whatsoever. Just like the remakes before it.
These are meant to appeal to a whole new audience. They are called teenagers. They spend money to go to the show. Adult theater spending is going down year by year as more mid 20's and above opt to stay home or do something else. With the theater choices lately, who can blame them?
DVD has put a dent into theater sales as well sans family films for the whole family or mega blockbusters.
The reason these remakes are made in the way they are is because they are meant to appeal to early 20's and below. This will continue to happen as long as they are the majority of theater goers.
Think about it. Name one faithful remake in the last 5 years of a tv show from the 60's/70's? I can't think of any.
In many ways, these shouldn't have even be remakes, but new movies with different titles alltogether.

Uh, no it wasn't. They seem to have forgotten the characters of Starsky & Hutch. In the TV show Hutch was more serious (though always the ladies man) and Starsky was more laid back. They reversed that for the movie. At least they got Starsky's sweater right. Plus even the show had more convincing action sequences. The movie was much more yuk-yuks.

But if that were the whole story, they wouldn't bother with a remake of a known product.
Part of the reason for remaking an old TV show, instead of just making a movie that rips off the idea, is that there's a greater likelihood that the older demographic, that doesn't venture into the theaters so much, will be curious about the remake.
Bonus thought:
In addition to Rachel McAdams, Heather Graham and Katherine Heigl also would be better Jeannies than Kate Husdon.

Katherine Heigl. But Heather Graham has more of a Jeannie personality.

The very least I dream of Jeannie will spawn the porn parody title, I Cream On Jeannie.
It's up to you to decide if that alone is worth the probable $40 million productions costs.

"Addams Family" really was the only good TV show to movie remake.
You'd think after killing "Bewitched" and "Honeymooners" you'd think someone would stop.
All we need now is "Gilligan's Island".
