Lucas working on a new film not named Star Wars or Indy!

Plus some Indy and Star Wars TV show news. Credit to Dark Horizons:

Turning up at last night's Sony Ericsson Empire Awards, "Star Wars" producer Rick McCallum confirmed to Empire Online that George Lucas has approved an "Indiana Jones IV script and returned it to Spielberg for more polishing.

He also says the Star Wars TV show is a go - "That's not going to happen probably for another year and a half while we develop scripts and everything else. But it's fantastic; we've got some incredible writers. It's going to be much darker, much more character-based, and I think it's going to be everything the fans always wanted the prequels to be. They'll be one-hour episode. It takes place between Episodes III and IV. It's going to be all-new characters, maybe a few bounty hunters in there to start the series off".

Lucas is currently penning the script for his long-cherished World War II fighter pilots film "Red Tails" before sending it out to other writers towards years end and then gets filming on it next year.
I've wanted to see Lucas do other stuff, smaller stuff, completely different from Star Wars. I never actually believed he'd do them, no matter how much he talked about it. I've heard rumors that Red Tails was to be a documentary. It's also good to hear that Lucas is sending his first script off to much better screenwriters.

Sounds like the Indy script is done and awaiting Spielberg's approval.

Agreed. Of course, "much better" than Lucas is just about anyone.

Well, almost! I couldn't write one better. I'd like to just see Lucas write the story, which he's exceptional at, and the let a great screenwriter turn his stories into a great script.

Hmm, hard to imagine the SW tv show being darker than ROTS.

But hey, I like my dark entertainment.

Bump:
LOS ANGELES - Actors Cuba Gooding Jr . and Terrence Howard will star in Lucasfilm's upcoming World War II saga "Red Tails," a drama is based on the Tuskegee Airmen .

The first American group of black military pilots and crew dealt with racial prejudice along with the pressures of war. Nearly 200 members attended the inauguration of President Barack Obama .

The airmen went on more than 15,000 combat trips throughout Europe, the Mediterranean and North Africa .

" Star Wars " creator George Lucas is executive producer and has a story credit on the film, which is written by John Ridley . It's directed by Anthony Hemingway , whose credits include episodes of "The Wire" and "Battlestar Galactica."

Gooding's credits include " Pearl Harbor ," " Jerry Maguire " and a TV movie called " The Tuskegee Airmen ." Howard's films include "Hustle and Flow" and "Crash."

Shooting gets under way soon in Europe.

You don't have to do much to get a "story credit." As long as he's not writing romantic dialogue for Hayden Christiansen, we should be OK.

I'll be avoiding this one since Lucas is involved.

The presence of Cuba Gooding Jr. might act as a signal of shittiness.

The irony is that I've come to regard Terrence Howard as Cuba Gooding Jr without the bad career decisions.

Fixed.

I'll probably pass unless it looks REALLY cool. Not really my kind of flick.

That would be Star Wars: Episode VII - Hell Freezes Over?

Or we could always just rent The Tuskegee Airmen, a good HBO movie on the same subject.

I can't watch anything Terrence Howard is in anymore. I like Cuba, but this movie doesn't sound remotely interesting. It's going to end up as a Lucasized version of Pearl Harbor.

Well, at least Cuba is in a movie that might get a theatrical release. He definitely mugs for the camera more than he should, but it's still kind of a shame that he's stuck in DTV hell.

Cuba was in American Gangster, which wasn't that long ago. Admittedly, a small role though.

I dunno... Rosalyn's titties made that film worthwhile.

Re: Lucas working on a new film not named Star Wars or Indy!

I just wish he'd get away from trying to make big movies and go back to doing stuff like American Graffiti or TXH 1138, like smaller indy films that fly under the radar. Not that having his name is going to fly under any radars these days, but he actually made some good flicks before he started to worry about how much money he could make off of merchandising his work.
