but Season 5 was long-announced by this time last year. I believe Sony officially announces their titles exactly 11 weeks before the release date and that info usually leaks several weeks in advance so it would be almost impossible to get it out in May.

I think the last three will all come out in November, also available in a gift box set, for the holidays. That way there will have been three box sets for the show.

First two volumes released November 2004, along with gift set.
Third volume released May 2005.
Fourth and fifth volumes released November 2005, along with gift set.
Based on that, I'm guessing we'll see this:
Volume 6 (Season 7) released in May.
Volumes 7 and 8 (Seasons 8 and 9) released in November, along with a gift set containing both of those, along with a collectible bowl of mulligatawny or something.

So maybe it'll be a miniature Festivus pole or something instead. Even better.

From exactly one year ago today:
You're setting yourself up for disappointment if you're thinking you're gonna get "Seinfeld" Season 7 by May. There's nothing whatsoever to suggest that that's gonna happen.
I think it makes all the sense in the world to maintain the release schedule they already started with the previous sets but then again, I don't run Sony.
There could be many possible reasons for the change: the extras might not be ready, they might be withholding it for the holiday season or they may simply be releasing it a couple months later, but a May release is really unlikely.

You do have a point in that there isn't any pre-announcement info out there this time around, whereas with the previous releases there was a ton of info leaked before their official announcements.
So, maybe you're right. Or, maybe they're just being particularly tight-lipped with info, for some reason.
Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

And, looking at their Seinfeld news (link), the first mentions of Seasons 5 and 6 were in mid-September of last year, and they were released in mid-to-late November--about a two-and-a-half month gap there. So it's reasonable to think they could still announce Season 7 pretty soon for a late-May release.

I think the gift sets sell so well around Christmas, I suspect they will do Seasons 7,8,9 as one gift set in November '06.
I betcha they want the Soup Nazi gifts to be included, and that is Season 7, so that may be the reason for the delay. Think about all the soup recipes that Elaine found that they can include in the gift set.
Sorry guys, "NO DVD's FOR YOU, You have to wait 6 months!"

So, I was wrong. Wasn't the first time, and it definitely won't be the last time.
I still think we'll have the final three seasons on DVD by Christmas, though.

I just took an online survey a few weeks ago, and it was asking about DVD's. It said "Would you be interested in buying the final seasons of Seinfeld when it is released this November?"
So I can confirm that it is being released in November...It even had a list of the special features on it, but since I don't really watch Seinfeld, I don't remember what they are.
