Is my TV dead?

When I try to turn on my TV, I hear the "sound" that tv's make when they are being turned on, but then it seems as though it immediately turns off again. If I hit the power button again, the tv does nothing until I unplug it and plug it back in. Then it just repeats the first step. This tv is very old, but it does what I need it to...I hate to junk it because it really seems like it wants to work. Any suggestions?

Sounds like the tube may be gone. Might as well junk it because the repair would likely cost more than it is worth and besides everything is moving forward including the technology. Now is a good time to look at some type of flat panel with hd technology built in.

That's what I was afraid of.
Thanks for replying.
