F For Fake, Research?

I considering writing the semester end research paper for my film class about F For Fake. I would like to analyze the movie and essentially talk about how it serves as a metaphor for films themselves (film being itself fake and an artifice).

Does anyone have any suggestions as to research sources?

Are you talking about other films or articles/books?

I don't know if this will help, but Werner Herzog wrote up what he calls the Minnesota Declaration as a response to cinema verite:

http://www.wernerherzog.com/main/de/...eclaration.htm

Basically, it denounces the factuality of documentaries, as there are always multiple sides to every story. I hope this helps in some way.

If the link doesn't work, you can Google it and the declaration should be the first thing to come up.

I forgot about the concept of cinema verite. I can probably build off of this. Thank you!

You might want to check out the book F for Fake and the Growth in Complexity of Orson Welles' Documentary Form, which should be available via your better university libraries. It's basically a dissertation published in book form, but it deals with some of the material you're covering. The author is Claudia Thieme.

you know what? i had a screen writing class in college and this was one the films we talked about. but damn, i'm trying to remember what we said.

if you havent done so, rent or buy the DVD. there are some great extra features about the film. maybe also do some research on elmyr and that writer (forgot his name).

also, imdb has some very interesting trivia about the film, like the location on screen of Chartres in Fake is identical to the lighted window at the beginning of Kane.

Isn't that more about the modern studio system?
