the saragossa manuscript {1965} from poland.

considered as the greatest movie to ever come out from poland.

was recently voted in kazakhstan as one of the top 50 films of all time on a per country basis.

starring the james dean of poland..zbigniew cybulski

was hailed by jerry garcia of the grateful dead, lead singer of the rock group, as his favorite movie of all time and started the restoration of the same..

he never got to finally see the movie restored, due to his death, but continued by martin scorsese and francisford coppola..

released by image entertainment on region 1 dvd

in glorious black and white, digitally remastered and restored

in polish with english yellow colored subtitles

contains a story within a story, and ala arabian nights

based on a classic and famous novel.

also hailed by the great director luis bunuel

just received my copy and havent watched the film in its entirety but made several glimpses into it and it well worth the blind buy!!!!!!!!!!

Note that the DVD is not OAR. It has been cropped from 2.35:1 to about 2:1, similar to DVDs of Coppola's Tucker and Apocalypse Now. This is presumably due to Vittorio Storaro's influence; his Univisium standard calls for a 2:1 aspect ratio. Which is fine if the film is originally shot that way, the problem is that Saragossa wasn't (neither were the other two mentioned).

Aside from that, the DVD seems to be pretty well reviewed.

Thanks for the suggestion, I just put this in my Netflix cue. If Bunuel approves, I'm sure I'll like it as well.
