How do movies that are never suppose to see the light of day get released?

I've been wondering how movies like the 1992 Fantastic Four movie and the producer's cut of Halloween 6 make their way to ebay if they were never 'officially' released? Would an insider have to do it?

because copies get passed around hollywood and somebody passes it to somebody who knows somebody etc.

sometimes it is done on purpose. People trying to get the work out there even when the studios won't allow it in the cineplex.

plenty of tv pilots are the same way.

All it takes is for one person to make a copy and give it to someone else. Just look at Star Wars Holiday Special; it aired one time back in 1978 when most people didn't even have VCRs, and yet it endures.
