Smokey and the Bandit Special Edition ----> 5/30/06

From dvdactive.com:

Title: Smokey and the Bandit
Starring: Burt Reynolds
Released: 30th May 2006
SRP: $19.98

Further Details:

Universal Home Video has today announced a special edition of Smokey and the Bandit which stars Burt Reynolds, Jackie Gleason and Sally Field. This single-disc set will be available to own from the 30th May, and should set you back around $19.98 in total. The film itself will be presented in 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen, along with English Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround, French Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo and Spanish Dolby Digital 2.0 Stereo tracks. English, French and Spanish subtitles will also be provided. I'm afraid Universal has yet to reveal any further details, but we'll bring you the full specs shortly. Stay tuned for that.

They just released "The Pusuit Pack" containing all 3 movies in 2004, what's the point in another release?

I've got the Pursuit pack, and will stick with that. I'd rather see SE's of the Cannonball Run movies and Stroker Ace myself.

Grow up? Give me a break!

NO, Universal is not making me buy it, but they are wasting their time re-releasing the same titles over and over and over. They could actually release titles that haven't been released yet, or titles that are in serious need of an upgrade. I might consider buying those, but double dipping, no thanks.

It would be nice if they'd rerelease Smokey and the Bandit, Part 3 with a 16x9 transfer since that one is non-anamorphic in the Pursuit Pack: Franchise Collection. It makes no sense that part three is 4x3 letterbox while parts one and two are 16x9.

Agreed. If this is in fact another 'pursuit pack', I'd upgrade for an anamorphic transfer of pt. 3.

Now,

if they include Smokey IS the Bandit (the original version of part three with Gleason playing BOTH roles!!), I would buy the whole series again.

I vaguely recall hearing about that. I think the film was reshot after poor test screenings. Would love to see it though.

This is not about buying it or not, this is about the dedication of time to a film that already has several DVD releases. Instead of releasing this film again, Universal could focus their time and energy to release other titles in their catalog or out-of-print films like Double Indemnity and Out of Sight.

I'm happy with the current release, but I might reconsider if it was the "Remind Me When We Get Home To Slap Yo Momma Special Edition"

Eh, I might pick this up. I didn't like the other two, and the stand alone version of this was non-anamorphic.
