DVDTalk review for 'Pride & Prejudice' (2005)

I get the sense that the US region one release of this got slightly trunscated for it domestic version when compared to the UK special edition

UK edition:

The Politics of Dating. The Stately Homes of Pride and Prejudice. The Bennets. The Life and Times of Jane Austen. On Set Diaries. Audio Commentary with Director Joe Wright. Galleries of the 19th Century. Pride & Prejudice Family Tree. Alternate US Ending.

BBFC breakdown of supplements:

00:04:21:22 (PRIDE AND PREJUDICE - VALUE ADDED MATERIAL - THE POLITICS OF 18TH CENTURY DATING)
00:08:00:22 (THE LIFE AND TIMES OF JANE AUSTEN)
00:05:59:15 (THE BENNETS)
00:06:14:11 (ON SET DIARIES)
00:04:22:14 (THE STATELY HOMES) - GROOMBRIDGE PLACE - KENT
00:02:54:18 CHATSWORTH HOUSE - DERBYSHIRE
00:02:27:18 WILTON HOUSE - WILTSHIRE
00:02:11:15 BASILDON PARK - BERKSHIRE
00:03:51:09 BURGHLEY HOUSE - LINCOLNSHIRE
00:02:20:17 NANNY MCPHEE - (TRAILER)

it's kind of disappointing that we, Region 1 viewers can't see the alternate UK ending... oh well.

Actually, the UK version does not have any additional scenes that the US didn't have. The UK edition simply ends after Donald Sutherland/Keira Knightly scene while the US edition goes on for several minutes more. The alternate ending on the UK dvd is the US ending.

Eric: You mention in the review that you haven't seen the BBC version. I strongly, strongly, strongly urge you to watch it. I reviewed the DVD of that release and it's an out-and-out masterpiece. The new version is a joke compared to the mini-series. It's one of the best television programs ever produced.
