Songs Talking About Themselves as Songs

Inspired by the what songs namecheck the artict thread, what songs are about themselves being a song? Some lyrics off the top of my head:

"And you can tell everybody, that this is your song"
--Elton John

"You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you"
--Carly Simon

"Then I'm wrong, I'm wrong, this ain't a love song"
--Bon Jovi

"Won’t you sing along, this is my last song, it's all I've got"
--Poison

These two aren't ABOUT being a song, but just reference the fact that they are songs

"This ain't a song for the brokenhearted"
--Bon Jovi

"This is the remix to 'Ignition'"
--R. Kelly

"There's only two songs in me and I just wrote the third
Don't know where I got the inspiration or how I wrote the words
Spent my whole life just digging up my music's shallow grave
For the two songs in me and the third one I just made

...

So I bought myself some denim pants
And a silver guitar
But I politely told the ladies
'You'll still have to call me Sir
Because I have to keep my self-respect
I'll never be a star
Since there's just two songs in me
And this is Number Three'"

" I'm singing this borrowed tune
I took from the Rolling Stones.
Alone in this empty room
to wasted to write my own."

It makes me wanna cry
Thinking about you
"Beautiful" you said
The way you shook your head
So strange that no one stayed
At the end of the parade

This is just another song about it
This is just another song about

Also, this one might count (as I've interpreted it):

"I'm writing a song all about you
A true song as real as my tears
But you've no need to fear it
'Cause no one will hear it
Sad songs and waltzes aren't selling this year"
-"Sad Songs and Waltzes" Willie Nelson (covered by Cake later)

This one will never sell
They'll never understand
I don't even sing it well
I try, but I just can't
But I sing it every night
And I fight to keep it in
'Cause this one's for you
This one's for you

I've done a hundred songs
From fantasies to lies
But this one's so real for me
That I'm the one who cries
And I sing it every night
And I fight to hide the tears
Cause this one's for you
This one's for you

This one's for you, wherever you are
To say that nothing's been the same
Since we've been apart
This one's for all the love we once knew
Like everything else I have
This one's for you

I've got it all, it seems
For all it means to me
But I sing of things I miss
And things that used to be
And I wonder every night
If you might just miss me too
And I sing for you
I sing for you

This one's for you, wherever I go
To say the things I should have said
Things that you should know
This one's to say that all I can do
Is hope that you will hear me sing
'Cause this one's for you

This one's for you, wherever you are
To say that nothing's been the same
Since we've been apart
This one's for all the love we once knew
Like everything else I have
This one's for you

My favorite is "Title of the Song" by DaVinci's Notebook. Its a parody of boy band songs.

Declaration of my feelings for you
Elaboration of those feelings
Description of how long these feelings have existed
Belief that no one else could feel the same as I
Reminisence of the pleasant times we shared
And our relationship's perfection
Recounting of the steps that led to our love's dissolution
Mostly involving my unfaithfulness and lies
Penitent admission of wrongdoing
Discovery of the depth of my affection
Regret over the lateness of my epiphany

(chorus)
Title of the song
Naive expression of love
Reluctance to accept that you are gone
Request to turn back time
And rectify my wrongs
Repetition of the title of the song

Renumeration of my various trangressive actions
Of its sufficient motivation
Realization that these actions led to your departure
And my resulting lack of sleep and appetite
Renunciation of my past insensitive behavior
Promise of my reformation
Reassurance that you're foremost in my thoughts now
Need for instruction how to gain your trust again
Request for reconciliation
Listing of the numerous tasks that I'd perform
Of physical and emotion compensation

(chorus)

Acknowledgment that I acted foolishly
Increasingly desperate pleas for your return
Sorrow for my infidelity
Feign hope that my sins are forgivable
Appeal for one more opportunity
Drop to my knees to elicit crowd response
Pray to my chosen deity
Modulation and I hold a high note

(Chorus)
Can you hear the title?
Talkin' bout the title.
Title of the song, baby

We wrote this song, it's not too short, not too long
It's got back-up vocals in just the right places (in just the right places)
It's got a few oohs and ahhs (oooh aaah)
And it takes a little pause
Just before I sing the F word

Please play this song on the radio

Almost every line is sung on time
Almost every verse ends in a rhyme
The only problem we had was writing enough words
(oooh aaah)
But that's okay, because the chorus is
Coming up again now

Please play this song on the radio
Please play this song on the radio

Please play this song on the radio
Please play this song on the radio
Please play this song on the radio
Please play this song on the radio
Please play this song on the radio (please play this song)
Please play this song on the radio (please play this song)

Right about this time
Some shit head will be drawin a fat fuckin' line
Over the title on the back sleeve
What an asshole!
So Mr. DJ I hope you've already made your segue
Or the FCC is gonna take a shit right on your head

Can't play this song on the radio (can't play this song)
Can't play this song on the radio (can't play this song)

Blues Traveler - Hook
It doesn't matter what I say
So long as I sing with inflection
That makes you feel that I'll convey
Some inner truth of vast reflection
But I've said nothing so far
And I can keep it up as long as it takes
And it don't matter who you are
If I'm doing my job, it's your resolve that breaks
Because the hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The hook brings you back
On that you can rely
There is something amiss
I am being insincere
In fact I don't mean any of this
Still my confession draws you near
To confuse the issue I refer
To familiar heroes from long ago
No matter how much Peter loved her
What made the Pan refuse to grow?
Was that the hook brings you back
I ain't telling you no lie
The hook brings you back
On that you can rely
Suck it in suck it in suck it in
If you're Rin Tin Tin or Anne Boleyn
Make a desperate move or else you'll win
And then begin
to see
What you're doing to me this MTV is not for free
It's so PC it's killing me
So desperately I sing to thee of love
Sure but also rage and hate and pain and fear of self
And I can't keep these feelings on the shelf
I tried, well no in fact I lied
Could be financial suicide but I've got too much pride inside
To hide or slide
I'll do as I'll decide and let it ride until I've died
And only then shall I abide this tide
Of catchy little tunes
Of hip three minute ditties
I wanna bust all your balloons
I wanna burn all of your cities to the ground
I've found I will not mess around
Unless I play then hey
I will go on all day hear what I say
I have a prayer to pray
That's really all this was
And when I'm feeling stuck and need a buck
I don't rely on luck because
The hook brings you back
I ain't tellin' you no lie
The hook...
On that you can rely

"Badman's Song" - Tears for Fears

The Jimmy Neutron theme song (similar to the Shandling theme)

"One Song Glory" from Rent?

Cher- Different Kind of Love Song

This is a different kind of love song
Dedicated to everyone
Different kind of love song, - oh, oh
This is a different kind of love song
A higher plane we can go on
Different kind of love song - oh, oh

Jim Croce - I'll Have To Say I Love You In A Song

’cause every time I tried to tell you
The words just came out wrong
So I’ll have to say I love you in a song

’cause every time the time was right
All the words just came out wrong
So I’ll have to say I love you in a song

I woke up and drove to work on the wrong side of the road, and what the hell would I do, I must admit I didn't know, and Andrew came along y'all to add a couple of lines or so, i've got one I finished yesterday, and i've got 3.6 to go.

One down and 3.6
tomorrow and im out of here
one down and 3.6
tomorrow and im out of here

People tell me Ben, just make up junk and turn it in, but I never was alright with turning a bunch of shit, I don't like wasting time on music that won't make me proud, but now I've found a reason, to sit right down and shit some out.

One down and 3.6
tomorrow and im out of here
one down and 3.6
tomorrow and im out of here

yeah, yeah

I love you more than
any man has love before
I love you more all the stars up in the sky
I think that we should settle down and live happily forever, after
what do you think of that?

I'm really not complaining,
I realize it's just a job
and I hate hearing belly-aching rockstars whine and sob
Cause I could be busing tables
I could well be pumping gas
but I get paid much finer for playing piano
and kissing ass

this is one I wrote just an hour ago
and 3.6 at last

One down and 3.6
tomorrow and im out of here
one down and 3.6
tomorrow and im out of here
one down and 3.6
one down and 3.6
tomorrow and im out of here

From Chain Letter by Todd Rundgren:

Don’t take yourself too seriously
There are precious few things worth hating nowadays,
And none of them are me
I was only trying to say how things used to be
’til we grew up and we all went our separate ways
Looking for our own paths to immortality
This is how I thought I’d start my song
And it seems a little silly when I think of it
But now I’m so far along
And no one really wants to know that he’s wrong
That his ears can’t really hear or he’s blind a bit
Or that he’s really weak when he thinks that he is strong
Now I’m in the middle and I just don’t know
If I’ll make it any further if the words don’t flow

When you live in silence any sound is dear
But for those who don’t, take heart because the end is near
This is the ending of my song
It has made me blind and deaf and weak but most of all
It shows you that I’m wrong
For you see it’s really twice this long
And if I should die tomorrow it will carry on

the best of all time. Tenacious D - Tribute

And the peculiar thing is this my friends:
the song we sang on that fateful night...
it didn't actually sound anything like this song!
This is just a tribute!
You gotta believe me!
And I wish you were there!
Just a matter of opinion.

I don't even know how I know this

CHER
"(This Is A) Song For The Lonely"

This is a song - for the lonely
Can you hear me tonight
For the broken hearted, battle scared I'll
Be by your side
And this is a song - for the lonely
When your dreams won't come true
Can you hear this prayer
'Coz someone's there for you
