Is this really necessary? Isn't this genre played out already? Unfortunately Goldblum & Darabont sounds like a good team and at least a reason to check out the pilot. Goldblum embodies the eccentric-brilliant part for sure.

Doesn't specifically say if it is a tv movie, series or mini-series. The way it reads sounds like a show to me.

Yeah, it sounds like a complete rehash of things we've seen before. But, the names involved will certainly make me want to watch it.

Yeah, it sounds like rehashed ideas but Goldblum might be enough to get me interested.

Does anyone else find Jeff Goldblum to be really handsome? No joke, I'm being sincere.

Actually, he does have a handsomeness to him that's really blossomed in his later years. He now has the air of "charming gentleman".

I think it's because he learned to squint.

You had me at Goldblum.

'course, everyone knows that the eye goes to Goldblum...

His appearances on Conan are classics.

Honest question: Can you list other programs that have played up this angle? I'm generally not interested in the whole murder-mystery drama genre, so I'm not familiar with many other programs that are similar.

The idea of the show doesn't interest me, but with Goldblum in it I'll probably at least check it out.

The concept may be far from original, but with that talent involved, I'll definitely be checking it out.

Is the OP simply talking about shows like Medium, Rescue Me, etc. where someone interacts with dead people regularly when he says the genre is played out?

Maybe people are thinking of shows where the character is talking to god not dead people? There's Joan of Arcadia and the NBC show that was just cancelled with the Minister...Book of Daniel? There's also that show with Patricia Arquette that is on now and Jennifer Love Hewitt but they arent cops who talk to dead people.

Goldblum will play an eccentric, brilliant cop with the ability to talk to dead victims, who help him solve his cases.
Is each episode going to be five minutes long?

Goldblum: "Hey. You're the ghost of the guy who's murder I'm investigating, aren't you?"
Dead guy: "Yeah, that's me."
Goldblum: "Do you know who killed you?"
Dead Guy: "Yeah, it was that guy other there."
Goldblum: "Ok thanks, I'll arrest him now... eccentrically."

Medium, for another (she does work on cases)

There have been a number if "talking to dead people" shows in the last few years - I'd agree that it's hardly a novel concept any longer.

Have there been any movies where someone who "sees dead people" tries to solve a crime, but no one believes his/her psychic powers, and he/she can't explain how he/she knows so much about the crime that he/she becomes the suspect?

Only one thing to add -
Goldblum: Hey, does being dead make it easier to watch people poop?

I don't know about the suspect, but Heart Condition had a nice concept; a bigot cop (Bob Hoskins) receives the heart of a deceased black man (Denzel Washington), whose ghost then helps him to solve his murder.

(from NBC's press release) Emmy Award-winning writer-producer Graham Yost ("Band of Brothers," "Boomtown"), acclaimed director-writer-producer Frank Darabont ("The Shawshank Redemption," "Green Mile") and star Jeff Goldblum ("The Lost World: Jurassic Park") combine creative forces in this inventive police drama, which blends traditional noir storytelling with humor and intrigue. Eccentric LAPD detective Michael Raines' unique ability to have detailed conversations with deceased crime victims allows him to re-trace their lives leading up to their murder and helps him to solve their cases. Unfortunately, it also causes increasing friction with his boss, Captain Daniel Lewis (Matt Craven, "From the Earth to the Moon"), fellow officers Remy Boyer (Dov Davidoff, "Third Watch") and Sally Lance (Linda Park, "Star Trek: Enterprise"), as well as civilian employee Carolyn (Nicole Sullivan, "MADtv"). Aided by Charlie (Luis Guzman, "Boogie Nights"), his ex-LAPD partner and conscience, Raines struggles to accept his peculiar gift -- or burden -- as it often forces him at times to confront his own past and internal demons.
