American Idol -- The Hollywood Auditions Thread

Does anybody know how many episodes they will stretch the auditions in Hollywood?

Looking ahead at the upcoming episodes on my Tivo, it looks like tonight, and then next week. The description for next Wednesday stated the 'judges make their final picks for the top 12 boys and girls'

Don't take that as fact, but it seems about right, 3 episodes for hollywood week. Week of 2/20 should start the fan voting...

The judges knock it down from 175 in Hollywood to about 32.... not 12

To get the 32 to 12... there are a few episodes where 8 or so singers sing each week and about 2 move on pending viewer voting.

After a few weeks of THAT, we'll have 12.

Is it going to be a top 32 like seasons 1-3, or a top 24 (boy/girl) like last year?

I'm surprised at myself for how many people I enjoyed that made it. I hope the few good singers with sob stories (particularly the cowboy) get to make it to the audience voting.

Looking forward to watching the show tonight.

There are 3 or 4 girls I think are awesome: Kelly "Pickme" Pickler, Paris, Vocal Teacher Mom Girl and one more I cannot remember.

The Cowboy guy with the small beard (who married the woman with 2 kids) and the grey haired guy, are the only two guys I am impressed with.

Quiz of the day:

Does anyone remember who the first person to come out and sing in Hollywood last year was? Amazing when I saw reviewed the DVDs I burned from part of the last seasons shows.

Carrie did just a OK job and forgot a few words.

Kelly Pickler was the 1st this year and I thought she did a much better job that Carrie. But, Carrie had alot more maturity and than Kelly does at this point.

Love Kelly, but she comes across too much as a "Small town/Backwoods" country folk, Carrie never came across that way.

I like rooting for the sob stories. Glad Kelly and the 2 cowboys made it. As well as that niece of the famous singer. Was anyone else annoyed with many of the people who actually made it across? Those twins and that lame laryngitis girl. I generally hate whiners and they didn't give me anything to like.

I liked Crazy Dave, plus he was the only one they showed that sang Meatloaf's Bat Out of Hell. Wish he had stayed for another round or two as comic relief.

Plus the look of terror on Paula's face as he jumped across the gap onto their platform was priceless.

My pick for the girls in no particular order: Lisa Tucker, Katharine McPhee, and Paris Bennett.

Very hard for me to pick between the 3 of them. All of them are extraordinary in their own way and each sound very different each other.

My pick for the guys: Chris Daughtry and Taylor Hicks. Something REALLY interesting about the way Taylor Hicks sings. Has the blues moves down pat. Oh and the voice is easy on the ears too.

I'm amazed that you guys know their real names so early. Help me out.

What are the names of:
The Bald Cowboy who married the woman and became the father to her kids
The yong cowboy who was swimming in the ocean in this episode
The hot blonde who doesn'y really have parents and lives with her grandpa
The young black girl from Denver
The young black girl who is the niece of another famouse singer
The prematurely gray-haired guy
The man who sung that woman's country song really scruffy today

Those are my favorite s7ven so far.

The laryngitis girl didn't bother me so much - she really did make a good effort to continue despite her vocal problems. She could have been a less dramatic about the issue and still rallied the judges to her side, though.

But then for everyone else to suddenly have vocal production issues, especially with laryngitis/strained vocal cords? Either that's some good editing or a bunch of cop-outs who have no business making it to the next round.

It should be interesting for that one set of twins one or the both of them make it to the 24. Weren't they recently arrested for identity theft and fraud?

I think that was the skinnier twins that got kicked out today.

Pretty close to my favorite 5. You forgot about Katharine McPhee though - the one with a vocal teacher mom? She probably has the best vocal range of the bunch. The only thing about her voice is that it's almost too perfect. It lacks...texture? But I like her and think she's gorgeous, so I imagine she'll go far. Plus, her maturity (21, haha) will help her out. She seems to be taking the whole competition stress thing pretty well.

I liked the twins that didn't make it, though I think they should stick to singing together because I liked what they did in the first round better.

The bigger guys with the goatees are definitely characters and they seemed like nice guys at first, but then they start saying that there are people getting through who don't deserve it. I thought that was a little ironic.

In today's episode he sang the Liz Phair song. 1st cut is the Deepest. In the audition episode he sang a real scruffy rock song. Can't remember what it is called. Shouldn't be too hard to figure out if anyone has it recorded. I think he was one of very few men to do that particular song. Or at least one of few to be seen on TV today doing it.

I'm awful with names unless they are recurring so I won't doubt you. I just find it hard seeing them trying to rush anywhere like I picture them having to do.

With next week being group performances I think the 2 cowboys I like are going to have a rough time. The true pop singers will come out and shine next week, while the ones who are less pop and more something else are going to struggle.

I think you mean Sheryl Crow song. "First Cut is the Deepest" was sung by only two people on the show and you mentioned both of them - Chris Daughtry (the bald rocker guy), and Taylor Hicks (the gray haired blues guy).

Silly me. I'm not hip on chick music. Though I am a not so closet Kelly Clarkson fan.

And I think you are right. The gray haired guy is the guy. I guess I like him so much that I count him twice. That or he is so forgetable that I did. Anyone remember the song he did in auditions? I think it was Cocker.

Those bitter twins...I think Fox is truly setting them up for the fall they suffered recently.

Still can't believe cowboy got passed on to the next round.

Still not feeling it for Katherine McPhee, just does too much when she sings. I don't get that tingle/shiver when I do for those I really enjoy singing.

Well, if you want to get technical it isn't a chick song. It was a remake of an earlier song recorded by several male artists including James Taylor, Rod Stewart and Cat Stevens (although I don't know what order they recorded it in).
