I'm in a jonze for some good color European foreign films lately (English subs or dubbed), I've seen many of the bigger ones like My Life as a Dog, das Boot, Soldier of Orange, Europa Europa, Amelie and Run, Lola Run (as well as the rest of Tykwer's) and Reconstruction, etc. Here are some I've read that my be worth checking out:

The Tin Drum (German)
Children of Paradise (B&W)(French)
Wings of Desire (German)
Gigantics (German)
The Spider's Stratagem (Italian)
The Nasty Girl (German)
The Fourth Man (Dutch)
The 3 Colors Trilogy -Red, White, Blue (French/Polish)
The Bridge (German)

Would also like to see Herzog's Wings of Hope.

Anyone else have some suggestions?

Wings of Desire is mostly black & white.

The Nasty Girl isn't out on DVD in region 1, so you'd have to be region free or go with vhs.

Recent ones I've enjoyed include Goodbye, Lenin!, Downfall, Head On, L'Auberge Espagnole, A Very Long Engagement, What to Do in Case of Fire, The Man on the Train, and, less recently, Cinema Paradiso.

Why are you specifically interested in color movies?

I just saw the 3 Colors Trilogy and I would definitely recommend seeing it ASAP. A couple that I like but probably aren't real popular are

Thomas in Love ( Thomas est amoureux ) (French)
Avalon (Polish Language, Japanese Director)

The Bus

Man Bites Dog is excellent as is The Wages of Fear. However, they are not color.

Why not try Irreversible?

Saw it and it's not to my tastes, a couple others in that genre that are suggested, though I haven't personally seen them, are Schramm and I Stand Alone.

You should really warn someone first before suggesting this film as a 20 minute gruelling rape scene isn't really to many peoples taste.

I tend to have most of JPJ's movies (similar in style to Amelie), those are fun. Try Der Untergang (Downfall), it was pretty good, very gripping. Gosh, I know I have more, but I just can't remember them right now, sorry.

Thanks for the further suggestions. I've seen Kontroll and Swimming Pool and liked them, but wasn't fond of Dirty Pretty Things.

Oh, and I've seen Downfall and Sophie Schroll and enjoyed them both.

Started watching Wings of Desire and see where the Nicolas Cage / Meg Ryan movie was based on, but didn't get through it yet.
Also watched the Tin Drum, and found the performances interesting and the story also, but this is considered one of Germany's best? I don't get all the symbolism, I'm sure I understood some, on how war is rediculous and some of the events that take place in war and in the name of war. But what did the drum and the child symbolize, Hitler or the Nazi's? Guess I'm a bit too bewildered to understand how this is considered such a great film, don't misunderstand me, I thought it was good, but...

Saw Intacto and The Sea Inside as well as Fauto 5.0, but still looking for the City with No Limits, that was suggested to me in the four Spanish movie suggestions by someone. Also liked the Vanishing (Dutch/French version) which was very good.
