Thinking About Buying Quake 4
I need reasons to buy Quake 4. I liked Doom 3 and the expansion pack (playing it through again) but I keep hearing that the single player game in Quake 4 is pretty short. What I want to know is how short is pretty short. Could the single player game length of Quake 4 be compared to that of Doom 3?

I think Quake 4 is a bit longer than Doom (at least it took me longer....still not finished with Quake, I'm close to the end). I played on the 360 only though. I enjoy it....it's basically Doom3, but a bit better.

I never played Doom 3 but I'm right at the end of Quake 4 on the 360. I don't think it's short at all, but I tend to hop around from game to game vs. playing nothing but Quake for several nights in a row.
The single player gameplay is SOOOOOO much better than Perfect Dark Zero. I can't stand that game other than online. I think Call of Duty 2 is better than Quake 4 but that's not a negative against Quake 4, CoD2 is just REALLY good.

This game is good. Only thing I didn't like is the load time. Takes close to a minute to restore life. Since you'll die often, it gets irritating. I was hoping that with 360's huge memory, load times like this will be a thing of the past.

I think the main reason the load times are a bit longer than they should is because it's a PC port. If the game had been built from the ground up for the 360 it would have been better.

I might pick this up if I can find it on sale somewhere. I've already breezed through Condemnded and COD2 (COD2 was cool but I'm not a huge WWII game fan) and I need another 360 game. Though I hear good things about Amped 3 so maybe I'll try and rent Quake.

Still not sure about Quake 4, I was going to wait until it dropped in price on the PC, I really didn't like Doom 3, so I am not that interested in Quake 4, but thought I would try it out once I can find it cheap.

I had fun with PD0 the one time I played online (my fault, I just don't use my Live account that much). I HATEDHATEDHATED the single player game. All 3 of EGM's reviewers pretty much said the same thing, but one of them gave the game an overall low score because of the single player while the other 2 felt that the online play saved it (they agreed with all of the single player problems).
There were a couple of times in Quake 4 that the framerate stuttered a bit, but other than that, I didn't notice any slowdown issues at all.

Pretty much every time I've tried to get myself into the single player game, I give it up quickly. It's really just not that good. The on-line makes it worth the purchase though just like Halo 2 (except Halo 2 did have a better single player game).

I got it from Gamefly the other day. Probably a decent buy at 40 but not at 60. It's ok but nothing spectacular, and the multiplayer mode isn't that deep (few maps, simplistic play) basically it's just Quake 3 with nicer graphics (the multiplayer that is). Single player is ok but I'm over half way through and haven't really been too wowed by it.

Been playing this for the PC and I have to say I find a lot more fun that Doom 3. Doom 3 was pretty good and scary till about a quarter way through, when you could see the enemies coming a mile away (Ooo a shotgun... in the middle of a quiet room, wonder what's gonna happen.)
