Several Sony Godzilla releases and re-releases (no original version yet)on March 28th
From dvdactive.com:
Artwork here for the several releases.
All I can say is: what the fuck?!?!?!? They are re-releasing a film that was a complete dud with several useless extras, just to capitalize on the King Kong release?!!!! Where the hell is my Dracula SE?!!!! There has to be an award or prize that we don't know about, which has Sony and Universal competing for who can pull the worst decision on releases each year.
Title: Godzilla
Starring: Matthew Broderick
Released: 28th March 2006
SRP: $19.94
Further Details:
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has today revealed early details on a brand new special edition of the Roland Emmerich directed Godzilla which stars Matthew Broderick, Jean Reno and Hank Azaria. The disc is timed to coincide with the home entertaiment release of King Kong, and will be available to own from the 28th March. Retail will be around $19.94. The full specs have yet to be revealed, but we can confirm that the deluxe DVD will include a new feature on the “Best of” Godzilla fight scenes, and three animated Godzilla episodes. We've attached a lowres shot of the artwork below. Also available from the 28th will be two animated releases. Godzilla - The Series - Monster Mayhem and Mutant Madness will each include three episodes of the show, and should retail at around $9.95 a pop. Again, the artwork is attached below

A new release of that abomination? Yippee!
Yeah, that film and GODZILLA VS MOTHRA (1992). And with the original Japanese soundtrack too (along with SPACEGODZILLA and DESTROYER). With the nice releases Sony has done on some of the Showa and Shinsei Goji films, I'm really surprised that they haven't gone back and done better releases for these four Heisei films. Oh well, here's hoping.

Of course, it could be one of Toho's goofy contract requirements that they can't release these movies more than once or something.

In the past, I would have no problem believing a silly Toho contract requirement like that exists, but it looks like Sony now has a good relationship with Toho regarding Godzilla, so hopefully there is no such problem, and it's just a case of them getting around to it.

I remember when I heard this movie was coming out I was so siked Don't get me wrong I enjoyed the film for sheer creature effect loving monster movies but no it was not Godzilla.
It didn't have radioactive breath and it only took a few missles to kill him......I think not.
My favorite one will always be Godzilla 1985....First one I watched as a kid.
To be Final Wars was a major dud as well!
Back on topic I won't be getting this. The version I have will do just fine that I paid $5.00 for.

Yikes! That is some fugly artwork.
I watched the old Godzilla flicks growing up, so when they announced this I was so excited about it. It was bordering on obsession. They promoted this for months with teasers, ads, and the website, which I visited nearly every day. After seeing the film on opening day, I can't remember any other time where I was as disappointed with a film as this one. Completely let down. This was before I realized Roland Emmerich was a hack.
I own the previous disc, which cost me $5 a few years ago. There are a few cool scenes in it.

DVD Talk Limited Edition
That would be "Mecha-godzilla"...or maybe Godzilla is a Cyclon.
At least they put Jean Reno on the cover, he was the only thing of redeeming value in this movie.
The artwork is fugly, but suprisingly fitting for this movie.
