Enough of the Universal Logo

Why on every episode of every tv series i see on Universal DVD is there the new logo. I don't really need to see it before every episode of Emergency.

During the Office commentary the do comment slightly on the Universal logo before the episodes. Universal has become a disgrace in the home video market.

At least when our DVD skips, we'll remember which studio to complain about.

universal has easily one of the worst logos nowadays... it's a shame as it use to be pretty cool to see it as a kid. It meant something to you. Now you just want it to go away. They suck.

Fox TV DVDs here in the UK have an enforced copyright notice displayed at the start of each episode.

Universal don't have a monopoly on this shit.

I forgot to mention Paramount often putting the wrong logo on their older films. I remember specifically seeing the 75th Anniversary logo on Top Gun and Crocodile Dundee. If they want to remove the 75th Anniversary fine, but they replaced the logo with the one from the early 80s where the stars just appeared, not the one where they flew through the air.

At least give us chapter breaks. As if we dont' know what studio released these titles. You have one appear when you pop the DVD in the player, but having one at the beginning of each episode as well gets old fast.

Then we need logos before each chapter break.

I always go WTF when a New Line DVD plays a New Line HV logo, then a New Line Logo and then at the start of the film "New Line Picture presents" by that time I'm saying "No Shit Sherlock!"

I've been watching MIAMI VICE 2 and at the start of every episode that logo comes on.
If it was the quite one of the early 80's and the 70's where the world turns with no music and the letters are gold that would be good.

What is the new one? I'm drawing a blank, all I'm thinking of is the world one.

I actually like the Universal logo, it is miles better than New Line's and the old Lions Gate logo.

And with all the bitching and moaning I hear about Universal, they put out some solid disks this year.

Hate that logo

I've got a way of getting around the logo.
I load the DVD, then hit stop,
then I hit play.
What this does is bring you to the main page.
Next I select the chapters,
and click on the first scene.
That way I bypass that darn logo.

If by "solid discs" you mean, discs that won't play, then you'd be right.

I tried something similar with selecting the first chapter in scene selections but it ended up starting 2 minutes into the episode, rather than starting in the beginning. So I just FF through the UNI part.

It is the world. We zoom out from the Earth then see the back of the letters as they curve around the Northern Hemisphere, then we see the full logo.

I still like what they did during Waterworld.

I still like the old Orion one.

Well, the theme sounds pretty cool in 5.1, but on the Emergency set it plays in mono- it was never meant to be heard that way. I heard on the Leave It To Beaver set they play it in black & white as well!

Don't like it as much as their older logos (thought it was a joke when I first saw it on The Lost World, waaay too much black) but it's grown on me. The DVDs of their 70s movies should start out with the DiscoVision logo though!

I don't like that it's on every episode of Sliders season 3, but I like the music, so I'm cool with it.

Late composer Jerry Goldsmith wrote the current one, from 1997-present, while James Horner wrote the Anniversary one in 1990 which made its debut with 'Back To The Future part III', which was used until Goldsmith's version.

The Universal logo remains my favorite (except the version with the collage of film clips prelude) but I got tired of it after the 33rd viewing in the span of a month. Why put it before every single episode of every DVD season set? There's just no excuse for that. We bought the product; let us enjoy it in peace. And really, who buys anything because of the studio? Does it even make sense to hawk a studio logo like that? It just comes off as some kind of crass offering on the altar of marketing. All hail the glorious and supreme Marketing Deparment of Universal Pictures. If they even bothered to watch their own DVD's, they'd realize how utterly annoying it is and stop it. Unless there's some arcane legal requirement at work, in which case they need to fire all their lawyers and replace them with a nice seawater aquarium.
