Best cheap TV to take advantage of XBox 360?

Not sure if this is the right forum, so mods move if necessary.

Anyhow, I was thinking of (eventually) getting a new TV. Not just because of the Xbox 360, but I have needed one anyway.

I have an RCA 27" TV right now. Yeah, I know, pathetic. It's actually the biggest one in my house. The rest are 19"

I don't need a big screen TV. I don't need plasma or anything top of the line. Just something cheap and that looks decent, or in any case better then what I have now.

Should I try and get a $500 HDTV or are there cheaper ones available? The TV I have now was $220 when I got it last year, so something under $500 would be great.

This thread is the prequel to the inevitable "Help me convince my wife to let me buy an HDTV" thread

I am probably looking to buy within the next couple of months.

Maybe you should ask your wife first.

I wouldn't buy one without talking to her about it. I can get a TV anytime, the 360 was a get one while you can.

The Insignia and Magnovax ones are the best for the price, you don't want anything less than 30" widescreen.

I am not sure it'd make a difference to me. 30" seems about right, I suppose. Are those good quality or is it a total "you'll see that you get what you pay for" deals.

the sammy has a great picture, but so do the others. i'm sure if you'd shop around you'd probably be able to find them closer to the price you'd like. if you're going to get a new tv to take advantage of the 360 it has got to be 16:9 each 360 game is in 720p by deafult on an HDTV and some of them are going in 1080i.

Probably above my price range. You go there, and pretty soon you have people telling you "Well, if you can pony up an extra 200, you can get this new 52" blah blah"

I'm sure they are fine, but I'd go to BB and see them first of course.

I would also say it is worth looking into a WS set if the 360 will be used a lot on the tv.

Yeah, the TV will be the main TV, so the 360 and also the PS2 (and PS3 in the future, possibly) will be hooked up to it. The Gamecube will be on the 27" when I get the new TV.

I just got that Samsung TV. It has an AWESOME picture. Plus a DVI input with HDTV looks great (not sure if Xbox has DVI)

I got it for $853 cash BTW and got $115 back in rebates (within 3 weeks)
So that's like $738 for a top of the line tv. It's really thin too (16") and looks like a plasma from the front

dumb question. If you get an HD ready tv, you only need the tuner for watching television, not for the 360 right? all you need for the 360 is the HD cables?

The premium comes with the component cables with the switch for regular or HDTV.

My 26" LCD works just fine with games. And it's widescreen.
