Trade in Xbox?

I am having problems with my orginial Xbox. Problem is that I am getting tons of Dirty Disc errors lately and I can't seem to get through a full round of Tiger without the damn box fucking up. I was thinking about trading it in at Gamestop or EB for credit and then using that credit at another store to supplement a new Box. I know that I can get a replacement drive from Ebay, but I don't feel like going through the hassle. They are going to refurbish it anyway and make a profit on the damn thing. Anyone ever tried this, will they be able to see in their computer that I traded in an Xbox and then bought a new one? Any advice would be appreciated.

Aren't you still within most store's 30 day return policy?

I should have been more clear, this is about my 3 year old original Xbox.

Oh.. and you want to replace it with an xbox, not a 360, right?

Right, my 360 is working fine but there are some games that I can not play on the 360 because of backwards compatibility, so I was thinking of buying a new Xbox 1 to play those games. I just didn't know if Gamestop or EB track their trade in credits and they would be able to tell that I traded an Xbox and then went and bought a new one. I would hate to explain that my box was having problems and I just wanted some credit before it died.

Why can't you just say you changed your mind, or that the 360 wasn't backward compatible with your favorite game so you want a new Xbox?

yeah, basically who cares... trade it in and get a new one... they should not give you any grief...
