Why did the Amazing Race go from season 1 to season 7?

I kind of enjoyed the first one, although mainly because it was original and it was fun to see the places/tasks they had to do, the "group drama" was kind of tedious IMHO. I just noticed season 7 is coming out, but where are the rest of the seasons, or is there something to the way the program runs that I'm missing? I've never watched it on TV so I'm only assuming seasons 2 - 6 exist or are they not worth watching?

I think the reason is strictly ratings related. Season 7 had Rob and Amber from Survivor and was by far the highest rated season. They just wanted to get it out there as quickly as possible. I'm sure we'll see future releases fill in the gaps.

Season 7 has Rob & Amber from Survivor and I'm sure they just want to strike while the iron is hot. Seasons 2-6 are very good as well; although season 4 was my least favorite by far of those.

I bought season 1 and liked it. Is season 7 just as good? I am thinking of buying this set. Can some of you who saw it, tell me if this season was any good. I would be very grateful. Thanks!

I enjoyed season 7. Rob certainly knows how to play a game like this.

I think season 7 was one of the best. Read the DVDTalk review of it and you'll see the reviewer sure enjoyed it.

o.k. I am easy to knock down. Two reactions and the dvdtalk review is enough for me. I just pre-ordered it. You still got a couple of days to talk me out of it. I can cancel untill it's going into processing :-)

Thanks for the quick responses by the way!

Survivor is pulling the same shit. They released the first two seasons and now they are reportedly jumping to a higher rated recent season. It stinks if you ask me.

I'm confused why it stinks. I would call myself a casual Survivor watcher at best, I can't say that I know any names or anything, but on a particularly boring night I flip it on for a few minutes here and there. Do the seasons build off of each other or is it just to have a chronological progression of season releases? If they build off of each other I completely see the point, but if they're all self-contained seasons, it makes sense to me that CBS (or whoever distributes the DVDs) would want to strike while the iron is hottest. Or do they reference previous seasons/tasks/challenges so it would provide a better context?

Well, I'm not really a Survivor fan, but in all fairness, shows like the Simpsons (ignoring the Sideshow Bob and Maude Flanders aspects) and Family Guy don't really have a rigid continuity, yet I'd be pissed if they didn't realease the sets in chronological order.

Amazing Race is probably the best reality show on right now, although for me once I see it once, I wouldn't need to see it again.

Im confused because the reason I purchase tv-shows-on-dvd is basically for trips down memory lane and thats why I purchase them... but a season of tv that has just aried (especially for a reality show with even less replay value) just doesn't have the same thrill to me if they had waiting 4 or 5 years...

They are definitely worth watching. Races 3 and 4 are my favorite seasons and are probably the only 2 I would buy on dvd.....so them jumping around like this sort of sucks for me.

Pretty old thread, but has anybody heard anything about plans to release the other seasons?

Season 9 is one I would really like to buy.
