Tough time deciding (Sony vs. Samsung HDTV)
I've read multiple reviews on each of these, but am still having a tough time deciding which to plunk our year-end xmass money down on.
The choice seems to be narrowed down to these 2 models, both around $2,200 - $2,500:
Samsung HLR 5656C (or equivalent) - a DLP projection HDTV.
Sony KDF E50A10 - a 3LCD projection HDTV.
Odds/Ends hilights:
Both are 1280 x 720.
I think only the Sony comes with the new CableCARD input and headphone jack?
The Samsung is 56" and sports an impressive 2000:1 contrast ratio (the DLP technology at work I guess).
The Sony is 50" (not sure of the contrast ratio) and costs about $200 less.
I've seen each picture and they are both quite superb. I have a modest (5.1) home-theater setup so I'm not too worried about their individual sound capabilities. Next xmass will be the leap to 7.1
Anyway, enough of my nonsense... how would you folks vote on this?
Mike.

I just ordered a Samsung HLR5667 DLP to upgrade from my first-gen HLM5065 that didn't have HDMI. I was going to go with the 1080p version, but I'll wait a couple of gens till the lag issues during upconversion are resolved. Was never crazy about the Sony Grand Wega LCD's (lack of black levels for me) though they definitely have improved over the past couple of years, especially with the new SXRD's. I was actually debating between the Sammy and the HP 58 inch-er, but the HP's case was just too big.
The 56" Samsung HLR5667 has the cable-card jack. No headphone though. THe HLR5656 is the same 2005 model-year Costco version and they take the following features out of those to cut price:
Picture in Picture
Dual Tuner
Cable Card Slot
TV Guide On Screen Display
PC connection (VGA)
Firewire (IEEE1394) (DNet)
