I thought The Arcade Fire - Funeral was a 2004 release?
can we say two words: Kanye West
LCD Soundsystem should win in both the catagories they've been nominated for
Kraftwerk - "Mininum-Maxium" come on, it's a great album but it's essentially a greatest hits compliation.

If Fatboy Slim wins... that would be too sad.

that Kanye gets shut out. Maybe he'll leave the country..
Kanye West: 'I'll Have A Problem If I Don't Win A Grammy'
After slamming Bush...
Kanye West has said that if he doesn’t win at the Grammys he will have a problem with that.
The rapper believes that his album ‘Late Registration’ is a contender for album of the year, but will not win because some of the outbursts he’s made – namely against George Bush in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.
Kanye told mtv: "If I don't win Album of the Year, I'm gonna really have a problem with that," said West. "I can never talk myself out of (winning), you know why? Because I put in the work. I don't care if I jumped up and down right now on the couch like Tom Cruise.
“I don't care what I do, I don't care how much I stunt — you can never take away from the amount of work I put into it. So I don't wanna hear all of that politically correct stuff. You put the camera in front of me, I'm gonna tell you like this.
“I worked hard to get here. I put my love, I put my heart, I put my money (into Late Registration). I'm $600,000 in the hole right now on that album and you tell me about being politically incorrect?”
The nominations for next year’s Grammy Awards will be announced later this week. The ceremony is held on February 8 in Los Angeles.

Anyone know if Gwen's performing?
I tuned in to see her rock out at the American Music awards, but all she did was follow Pharell around on stage and burped out the chorus.

I'd like to see MCartney and Neil Young both take home awards since making relevant music this far into their careers is a major accomplishment. It's nice to see them nominated but winning would be very cool. Anyone know if either plans to perform?

also, how and why the fuck is "this love" nomintated for best pop performance by a duo or group?? that song should have been nominated last year?
Also fall out boy is not a "new artist" well then again they nominated Fountains of Wayne in 2004 when they have been around since the mid 90's

Hey, I did OK with some of my guesses in my Guess The Nominees thread last month. I even called the curtain call for Green Day in the RoY category. Didn't see the Mariah express coming, though. Also didn't think the Recording Academy would feel like honoring a song whose chorus goes "This shit is bananas. B-A-N-A-N-A-S", but guess I was wrong.
for Paul McCartney. It must feel good to be recognised for putting out quality music long after everyone had given up on you. Too bad there wasn't room for The Stones as well.
I must be an old fogey now. Keane is the only artist in the new Artist category I've ever heard of.
And just a quick . I loved Fiona Apple's Extraordinary Machine. It's my Album Of The Year pick. But it's ineligiable per the Grammy rules :
For recordings released during the Eligibility Year October 1, 2004 through September 30, 2005 Fiona's album was released on October 4, 2005

Yet another example of that wiggy Grammy logic. How big is this committee that picks the nominees?

They need to stop rewarding people for making crap music and calling themselves "artists", which would hopefully give them some incentive to actually create something even closely resembling a good song/album. The percentage of good music is getting smaller every year, just as the ease to entertain the growing mass of mindless, musically-uneducated idiots itself grows larger.
Until they can start rewarding the unknown artists making good music out there in the trenches, and stop being a plain and simple popularity contest, the Grammys can go fuck themselves.

Yeah, sure.
----------------
Rascall Flatts getting any major recognition is bad. They take a great song (Broken Road) redo it (with that lead's horrible chalkboard scratching vocals) and call it their own.
----------------
Too much Mariah love. Anyone can go crazy, come back with clothes that fit horribly on them (making them look 50 lbs larger), and screetch out some vocals.

There are a handful of artists nominated who I actually like somewhat, but overall, if everyone on that entire list was banned from ever making music again, the only ones I'd really, really miss are Arcade Fire. Speaking of which, I was about to bash the Academy for getting their name wrong (there's no The), but then I happened to notice that Merge has it incorrect as well. You'd think at least their record label would get it right...
