I have been following Black for awhile now. Yeah, it does look too good to be true for the PS2 hardware. Black was playable to the public at Gamespot's G.A.M.E. event this last weekend. Many people played the PS2 version of Black at G.A.M.E., and according to everything they have said, the game does look that good on PS2. I am a little skeptical, especially about the massive amounts of particles. It actually kind of reminds me of FEAR with all the particle effects.
Also, Black is supposed to be a trilogy. If Black 1 looks this good on PS2, imagine Black 3 on PS3.

Maybe they finally squeezed out the full potential of the hardware. Though, its multi-console, so I don't know why they would spend the extra time. They spent years making God of War look as good as it did, and I don't know why they would push it so much for a multi-platform release.

I haven't seen the video yet (blocked from work), but I noticed in the EGM review of King Kong that they were raving about how good the PS2 version looked. Maybe it's a trend.

I read some where that they went nutty with the PS2's partcle effects which is the one advantage it has over all the last gen consoles. Assuming the PS2 is the lead platform, it should look great with progressive scan too.

I got to meet the developer of Burnout/Black and watch him play the first level on a PS2 using just composite cables. It looked amazing....better than pretty much anything on the current XBOX (but not next gen). I have been waiting for this game for over a year and so far it will not let me down.

Just a question here : There seems to be a "deal" where if you preorder this game you unlock the "BFG" with and exclusive code. This can't be some sort of one-time use code (like for Xbox Live subscriptions), right? That would have to require internet access, which I suspect most PS2's lack. If not, that code would be everywhere by the game's launch, making the promo useless. Just a weird preorder bonus in either case.
BTW : It's only $39.99. Sweet!

Sucks they went with the PS2, I can't stand the damn gamepad for FPS games (damn analog stick placement), there an XB-to-PS2 controller adapter out there?

So is the Xbox version expected to be different?

ah... I guess I read the OP as being surprised about how good it looked on the PS2 w/ no comparison (stated or implied) made to the Xbox version.

Needless to say, the PS2 version was the only good one.

I would add Doom3 and Half-Life2 which can't be even attempted on the PS2.
Although it isn't the same type game, I was a little more impressed with RE4 gfx on the PS2.

Normally I'm not into FPS games but I'm really looking forward to this one. It looks great. I also saw an interview with one of the developers and he mentioned that they want the guns to sound as loud and as real as possible. That'll be a lot of fun on a home theater.
