Will a 26" widescreen LCD be too small?

I am in the process of upgrading televisions in my apartment. For the bedroom I currently have a 20" flatscreen Toshiba CRT.

I will be watching a lot of television that is 4:3 on the new tv in the bedroom. Will a 26" widescreen LCD be too small or the same as viewing 4:3 on a 20" CRT? All these numbers and I tried to do the calculations but my head is spinning.

Basically, I don't want the 4:3 image to be smaller than what I get on my 20". I'd actually prefer it to be bigger.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Personally, I'd go with a 30", 32", or even a 37" if you can find a great deal (and afford it).

The math part.. I have no idea. Go big and forget the calculator.

I recall seeing somewhere a link that had conversions of the 4:3 size equivalent for differnet size widescreen tv's, but couldn't find it the other day when I was looking for it.

Hopefully someone else will know it and post it as I'd like to see it again as well.

I made my own in Excel once. That's what happens when you are an accountant AND an HT freak.

4:3 size on 26" 16:9 TV is:

ca. 21.23" diagonal.

Thank you for all the useful information! Looks like the 26" widescreen will be perfection.

I got a 23" and its just the right size for a bedroom. This is because it crops some of the top and bottom, and stretches a little to fill most of the screen without losing any necessary picture for 4:3. Of course, I got the 23" because of a great deal and would probably be happy with the 26" if it was on sale as well.

I replaced a 20inch 4:3 tv with a 26 inch 16:9 tv in my bedroom. I love it. Sometimes I wish I had splurged for the 32inch, but the size is just right for a bedroom set.

Oh, got here too late. What I wanted to mention was if you plan to do any gaming on this TV, 26" might be too small.

All gaming will be done in the living room. Except maybe some old school NES in this one for the bedroom
