Kill Bill Box Set Question

I have a question about the OOP Kill Bill Box Set. On eBay this person is selling the slipcase cover (no DVDs):
http://cgi.ebay.com/Kill-Bill-Vol-1-...QQcmdZViewItem

When this was originally released, were the DVDs within the box set the same as the ones you buy seperately? Or were they extended with more special features or anything?

I believe they were the same exact releases.

So I could buy Vols. 1&2 from any retail store/website and buy this slipcase cover from eBay and it would be the exact same thing as buying the collection when it came out?

Exactly.

If I'm remembering correctly, the slipcase was a Best Buy exclusive that you got free with the purchase of Vol. 2 when it came out. It was just a flat piece of cardboard that you folded yourself into the case, and put the existing 2 DVDs into it.

The case even has a typo -- spelling "California" wrong.

There never was a box set. When Kill Bill II came out, Best Buy was giving away these slip covers with purchase of either Kill Bill I or II.

Ah, thanks for the replies, I didn't know that. Is there any recent news on a box set ever coming out Region 1? I think there's a R2 out now, and even a Japanese one (R4 I think?)

This is exactly correct. Looks like this guy selling them grabbed a handful.

Actually, the JPN version is R2 NTSC. If your thinking about getting both in a boxset this is the one to get if your region free. Their longer than the R1 versions.

Thanks for that link. I just don't know that I want to spend the $70-$80 to get it when you just know it'll be coming in R1.

Back in March 2005 on www.tarantino.info, they quote www.thesun.co.uk as saying:

It will probably be the first release from Miramax's new company, first at cinemas and then on DVD. It will also probably get a higher age rating. We had to cut it when Miramax was part of Disney but now we can do whatever the fuck we want."

There is a new box set in a wider clear case, featuring the 2 previous released dvds and a mini sword. Looks very similer to the japanese release. This may be a suncoast exclusive as I only saw it there behind the counter. Price is abit high at 39.99 though. Glendale, Ca store.

I'll try to find some pics.

Isn't that the French set? The only drawback is that it doesn't have the Japanese cut.

One more drawback of this fancy set is that it has forsed french subtitles.

Why can't we get something that sexy here? With no forced subs and the Japanese cut included of course.

I think that French set has the coolest packaging, but overall, the nicest sets currently available are the 2 limited Japanese box sets.

... or I would say, more complete. But, yup again .. and I'm happy to own each of the overpriced Japanese sets.
