My Name Is Earl -- "Cost Dad the Election" -- 11.22.2005

"Cost Dad the Election"

Earl (Jason Lee) sets out to mend his relationship with his father Carl (guest star Beau Bridges) by trying to cross number four off of his list: "blew dad’s chance to be elected mayor." Four years prior, Carl ran for mayor to oppose the other candidate’s plan to redirect airplane traffic away from the affluent part of town and towards Carl’s neighborhood. His campaign was going very well, until a misunderstanding between Earl and a police officer was caught on tape and broadcast as the opposing candidate’s campaign commercial. Now Earl submits his father’s name to run again, even though Carl is adamant that he does not want to be mayor. Earl, Randy (Ethan Suplee), and Catalina (Nadine Velazquez) recruit unregistered voters to boost Carl’s numbers, hoping to win not only the election for Carl, but also a relationship with his father for Earl. Jaime Pressly and Eddie Steeples also star.

My Name Is Earl -- "Cost Dad the Election"
Spoiler:

Earl sets out to mend his relationship with his father (Beau Bridges) by renominating him to run for mayor.

Edit: damn! I looked for it back until the 21st - how did I miss the original thread?

great episode, glad to see that they are going to break the formula and not always have him cross somebody off of the list. Also I hope they keep building up the one legged lady, by having Earl fail several times before succeeding. Also nice to hear Nick Drake get some play.

I must admit that while I enjoy this show, I haven't been as enthusiastic about it as others around here are, but that part where Randy was laughing as Joy was being tazered was the funniest thing I've seen on TV in a while.

Crabman's rant on the electoral college and our current political climate had me rolling, especially when he just went back to playing Mousetrap!

I loved how he kept telling the cop to tazer her while Earl was saying not to.

And Randy counting off eight alternative fingers before admitting that he would want regular thumbs.

Randy: "No."
Catalina: "No."

Overally, an okay episode, not great. Best sight gag was the dog humping the fake leg of the girl whose car was stolen by Earl.

"Jasmine, Savana, I would like to talk to you ladies about another kind of poll!"

this is a great show....but I was a bit dissapointed about this one! It did not follow the moral of the story....Do good things, and good things will happen to you. Now, he was doing a good thing, but something bad happen to him.....

The election was not important. He's started to regain his father's respect, which is much more valuable. Getting locked up and having his father bail him out is a good thing.

Decent episode, had a few laughs, but nowhere near as funny as Joy's Wedding.

Randy is best when he's in the background. The scene where Earl and his dad were yelling at each other, Randy was covering his ears and rocking back and forth... subtle, but hilarious.

I thought this was the weakest episode yet... But I still laughed a few times. It's still a great little show.

This show is solid week in and week out. It's a nice little hour that NBC has here with this and the office.

That was great as well. After Randy mentions the thumbs, you see Earl nodding in agreement with Randy. Of course you have to keep your thumbs. What made it even funnier for me was that On Gilmore Girls, Rory tried to shake hands with a guy who had no thumbs.

There was another "Hi-Def" shoutout, in last nights episode. I think the sign said "Carl Hickey Loves Hi Def"

It was FAR left in the pan shot of him signing up people.
