Due South - ridiculosly cheap TV sets
Anyone bought them ? Comment on quality ?
For the US peeps, Due South was a canadian show, from amazon -
"Plot Outline: The cases of a cynical American police detective and a upright Royal Canadian Mounted Police constable in the city of Chicago."
It was a charming show and I got hooked by its openeing theme music. Highly recommended.
It got released recently in US, transfer was via apparently from VHS and not of the same quality as the Canadian (much more expensive version). But the US versions are ridiculosly cheap - under 20$ for 24 40min episodes.
Expensive version:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00006RG6Y
Inexpensive version:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000A0GY0K
I wanna know if the US version is of sufficient quality.
For people who havent seen the show, 19$ is a great price for a blind buy

I have seasons 1 and 2 of the "cheap sets." I don't believe they are any different than the Canadian release, just a repackaging and a bit of reorganization (in these sets, the pilot included with the s1 set where it belongs, whereas the expensive Canadian release put it in with s3 or 4). The a/v isn't fantastic (it's about tv-quality) but it's good enough (especially for the price).
I've read reviews of the Canadian releases saying that the a/v isn't great in those either. High price doesn't necessarily mean greater quality.

Can't argue about the quality of the more inexpensive ones as I don't have them -- I own the Canadian release and my main complaint on that is the shoddy packaging. Felt like I was going to break the discs trying to get them out the first time.
According to reviews on Amazon, it seems like the US Platinum DVDs used VHS masters while the Canadian DVDs used the production ones. (BTW, I wonder where you could find reviews for Canadian DVDs... anyone??)
But just for reference, it's a lot cheaper to get the Canadian releases at Amazon.ca.

$63.19 CDN vs. $93.14 US.
