I was thinking Zathura myself, which is down a very soft 72% from last friday. Nice take for Walk The Line. Potter's a bit of a bomb, only the #6 highest opening day. Pfft.

Weak numbers for Potter. This is definitely the end of the franchise, unless DVD sales aren't sluggish (not optimistic though).

Yep, definitely time for Warner to cut it's losses. Sorry people, you're gonna have to read the books to finish out the adventures!

I can't tell if you're kidding, so i'll just say: you know those are only Friday's numbers, right?

100 mil opening weekend is pretty good, but not for a Potter. I hope you Potter fans like to read.

The real question is, will Mike Newell ever be allowed to direct again?

The movie cost $130 million, they'll make their profit before Thanksgiving. And as long as they make more than they spend...there will be more (up to 7, of course).

someone's sarcasm detector is busted. Here's a helpful hint. I don't think any of the post are even remotely serious. Not even the first one's numbers.

Maybe he can find work if Uwe Boll is looking for a 2nd unit director.

What a weak opening for Potter. Poor Daniel Radcliffe, he'll never find work again.

Maybe if we're lucky, Warner might do a direct-to-video sequel; and at this rate, I don't care if it has an entirely new cast or if it's all animated. I want more Potter stories on film.

Wow. Looks like Harry Potter has a chance to beat Episode III's 3-day opening. Looks as though Spider-man's $114 million opening weekend is safe and has been now 3+ years. Unless Harry Potter has a mega huge Saturday, along the $45 million range.

...up to seven? You're kidding, right? Sure, there are only seven books in the series, but if you think Hollywood is stopping there, you're crazy. American Pie 4 just got it's direct-to-video release. Lord of the Rings IV should be coming out in a couple of years, along with Passion of the Christ II. I wouldn't be surprised to see Harry Potter match at least Friday the 13th's number of sequels. Odds are the franchise will finally dry up around 2019 with the film's eleventh installment, a direct-to-video feature in which a 27 year old Harry Potter, played by Jon Stewart, goes undercover for the FBI as a high school student, all in an attempt to see if the latest killer from the Saw franchise is actually Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

i don't think jon stewart could pass for 27 in the year 2019. your whole argument is flawed.

Honestly, with regards to this franchise, considering its literary roots and the control Rowling has, this won't happen without her say so. And I can't imagine she'll allow movies that aren't based on something she writes. Same reason they can't churn out LoTR sequels ad nauseum.

Of course, I may be wrong about Rowling. I can't say for sure.

You really can't make a comparision, because JAWS was a summer movie, and popcorn was cheaper then.

You know, Michael Caine was in Batman Begins as well as Blame It On Rio.
