Most Underrated TV Actor or Actress?
Who is the most underrated actor or actress on TV at the moment? Here are my personnel favourites:
On CSI: Las Vegas by favourite cast members are Marg Helgenberger and William L. Petersen, they are both very solid leads that make CSI the high quality show it still is, I'm suprised they both haven't won a Emmy yet.
Also I felt that Boston Public had a cast full of underrated actors as well; by far the best cast members on there were Anthony Heald and Chi McBride, they really were the heart and soul of that series, plus Michael Rapaport and Nicky Katt were also worthy of mention too. And whoever suggested that Jeri Ryan was a bad actress who sank that series has to be f--king nuts.
Moving onto the Trek franchise, other underrated Trek performers include Colm Meany, Bob Picardo, Marc Alaimo, Jeffrey Combs and Nana Visitor. And I think it's safe to say that Stargate SG-1 has solid cast members as well with Richard Dean Anderson, Amanda Tapping and the much missed Don S. Davis leading the line up.
Who else do you deem as underrated on TV at the moment?

Anyone who has ever seen Helgenberger in China Beach knows she's even better than she is on CSI which tends to be limiting.
I always thought Julie Benz on Angel was very good but never got the kudos she deserved.
Claudia Black of Farscape I think was always very good on Farscape. Why didnt she get tons of offers?
Also, Matthew Fox from Lost. He should have been nominated.
One other I can think of is Poppy Montgomery from Without a Trace.

I like the nod to Peterson on C.S.I. I definitely think the show would fail without him.

Michael Cera and Tony Hale on "Arrested Development." I just got through the Season 2 DVDs, having not watched many of the episodes since they first aired. I was just floored by how subtle Cera can be with his acting, and how well he acts like Jason Bateman's son, with similar mannerisms and delivery.
And Tony Hale cracks me up more and more - I think he often gets the toughest jokes, the ones that are made far more funny than they should be just because he is the one delivering them.
I'm smiling just thinking about him coming in his mother's apartment and saying that "Army had half-a-day."

Colm Meaney, was excellent in all his appearances on TNG and DS9. Solid actor and has also done well on other shows. Good to have him on L&O:CI the other week.
Sam Anderson, good on ER, Angel and now Lost.

The first person that comes to mind is Walton Goggins from The Shield. But after typing that sentence I'm going to say CCH Pounder of The Shield and Justice League Unlimited.

Clark Johnson as Detective Meldrick Lewis on Homicide was overlooked when it was on.
I'll second Lauren Graham on Gilmore Girls.
Also Laura Innes as Dr. Kerry Weaver gets very little respect. I've liked her since she started on ER and except for a couple instances, she's been a very human and flawed character and not the evil heartless bitch so many people make her out to be.

I'll keep my choice recent, or I'll make a post a mile long. My vote if for Connor Trinneer (Engineer Tucker on the recently and woefully canceled STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE). For someone required to, more or less, do an updated riff on Dr. McCoy, he was unerringly riveting.

I don't know that she's the most underrated.
But she can do comedy and drama --and she's really beautiful.
She should be the star of her own show instead of Medium Arquette

Those who have never watched Veronica Mars almost certainly underrate Enrico Colantoni. I say that because I know I underrated him beore seeing what he has done with the Keith Mars character.
I think Goggins and Pounder now get enough respect with all the buzz about them being underrated, so I think the most underrated actor on The Shield right now is Jay Karnes. Dutch easily takes the most abuse on the show, and Karnes really bears it all quite well if you ask me.

Connor Trinneer's talents got ignored because he was on a sci fi show, sort of like how a football player putting up monster numbers on an average west coast team will get ignored for the Heisman while the same numbers on a crappy east coast team will get him superstar acclaim.
I guess now that Terry O'Quinn is an Emmy-nominated actor on a smash hit TV show, he's no longer underappreciated.
Denis Leary gets no love for all the work he's put into his Rescue Me role.

I would have said Denis Leary but at least he did get nominated for a GG, if not an Emmy.

Another vote for William Peterson
