Remote controls from the same manufacturer question
I had a Panasonic DVD recorder and just bought a Panasonic 5-disc changer. Now the remotes control both units at the same time (e.g. press power on the recorder remote and the 5-disc powers on at the same time). Is there anything that can be done about this?

Well sometimes there are switches or different buttons to deal with this. I have Sony components that seperate the functions. If not then you may need to get a macro recording remote and program it for each seperate box and use that.

You can get a remote (MX-850) or IR system (Xantech) with zone control that will control each independently. A simple macro setup won't work since they will still respond to the same commands. This may be a little pricey, also.
Search out Brian's idea first. I don't know about Panny's system, if it allows for different remote IDs. Most TV and VCR systems do. And satellite boxes. Just not sure about DVD players.

Yeah, that's a sucky situation. I while back I had two JVC VCR's and they operated on the same remote frequency. Luckily one of them actually had an a/b remote channel switch which worked great. Haven't seen that in any of my new components.

You can change the code on the Panasonic
Look in your manual. My Panny DVD recorder has a menu option to switch remote codes to allow interoperability of multiple units. There is a key sequence on the remote too. Don't have the manual in front of me or I'd look it up for you.

Not sure which model you have. Here's a scan from my manual:

EDIT: I'll host this for a day, then delete.
Good luck!

OMG thank you so much! It worked like a charm. I lost the instructions for my recorder a long time ago (DMR-HS2) and never thoght they had this type of feature. I've been folding a piece of paper over the IR eye for the past year and a half. Thanks again for posting the instructions as well.
