System of a Down: What happened?

What happened to these guys? I love them, but come on.

I was flipping through the channels last night and came across them performing on some awards show or something and the lead singer looks like Kenny G and the guitar guy looks like Garth Brooks as Chris Gaines.

Sad.

Not quite sure I understand what you're talking about. Mesmorize is a fantastic album...

Who cares what they looked like...I'm sure the music still kicked plenty of ass...Only start to worry if Hypnotize has a Kenny G solo on it.

I've found their lyrics are becoming borderline stupid. It seems they are just randomly throwing in phrases to get something there.

Still an awesome band to see live, though.

1) they "got" political? Obviously you didn't buy their first album. They've ALWAYS been political. Way more so than Green Day will ever be.

2) stupid lyics - have you heard "Sugar"? Or "Jet Pilot"? They've always done this.

3) okay, I also am not big on Serj's admittedly Kenny G-esque do. But hey, I'm not marrying the guy, so who cares? It's the music, duh!

This band has always and will always kick ass no matter what they look like, how stupid their lyrics are or how political they get. I have to agree their lyrics are borderline stupid but at least they write their own.

pogo, pogo, pogo, pogo, pogo!!!

I'll admit the lead singer just wants to be Jello Biafra a little too much some times...

btw, Hypnotize has already leaked on the Internet. I think Mesmerize is a better album based on one listen.

Count me in as another fan. I could care less about what they look like...they continue to release solid records and kick ass live. Hopefully they'll swing around the midwest sometime soon.

Toss me in the pool that thinks Mezmerize is better than Hypnotize. But then again, "Kill Rock N' Roll" might be the best thing off both albums.

Wow, what?

Green Day just made their best album when they decided to get 'Political'.
As far I know (didn't know System before they got popular) they've always BEEN steeped deeply in politics and human rights...

They've always bored the crap outta me, except for "Chop Suey", which sounds like rehashed Anthrax in many parts (except the Kenny G-esque bridge, LOL).

Oh, and "Aerials" is OK too.

Umm, The new album is being released this month. I dont think they have gone anywhere. Though I think that the lyrics are sometimes just thrown together. I love the sound, It just kicks so much ass.

I don't know if becoming MTV's "flavor of the month" will increase their credibility at all, LOL, but it will probably temporarily increase their record sales....

I love them. They are one of the few artists left who I will go out and buy their new cd the first week it comes out. Looking forward to Hypnotize.

I guess the songs that I listen to don't really have lyrics I find to be dumb. Particularly Prison Song.

I do like the following from Needles, though:

My tapeworm tells me what to do,
You,
My tapeworm tells me where to go,
Pull the tapeworm out of your ass, Hey
Pull the tapeworm out of your ass, Hey
Pull the tapeworm out of your ass, Hey
Pull the tapeworm out of your ass, Hey

Many bands do it, and it certainly isn't enough for me to not see them live. I just don't pay $10 for their cd anymore.

I lost any and all respect for them because of the comments they made on 9/11. ON 9/11, as the buildings were still on fire. They got no class.

I heard their next album is going to be a masterpiece.

Here's their song list...

1. We hate George Bush
2. George Bush hates the poor
3. The Military Sucks
4. The Government is Coming
5. We hate George Bush Part II
6. Incoherant Screaming
7. More Pissed off Screaming
8. George Bush Eats Babies
9. We Hate Capitalism But Buy Our Album Anyway!

Good God, grimfarrow, get a sense of humor. That's actually VERY funny, IMHO.

Speaking of things that SOAD fans don't wanna talk about, exactly WHAT did they say on 9/11? About 9/11? Just curious. As a casual fan, it might be the thing that makes me completely disregard them, or, if I agreed (unlikely), really like them.
