DDD 20% Off Sale Nov. 11-19 - Thread II

THREAD #II

MovieExchange has written up a nice little FAQ which you will find below, that should give you all some information and hopefully prevent the new folks from making threads and then feel bad because the veterans get on your case about making a thread.

Asking when the next sale will be is frowned upon. If you're a current customer of DDD, you will receive an email when the sale starts. If you're a subscriber of the DVD Talk newsletter, you will also get an email when the sale starts. Your best bet though is to watch the Bargains forum, because when it happens, you'll know. You will see a thread, and it grows, VERY quickly. You may also see or hear it advertised on local AM radio stations, and/or even national newspapers.

The sale usually happens twice a year and runs for a week and a half to two weeks. The last one was in June, the one before that was November of last year, but there's never any guarantee that it will take place. We don't get an official post until the day of or the day before the sale.

The 20% is taken off their current list price. Some newer items (for example, Sopranos season 5 during the last sale) are bumped up a few bucks beforehand, but the 20% off still makes for a great deal. You CANNOT use the coupon codes on pre-orders.

There are many different codes to use at checkout for the sale. There's a code for DVD Talk, as well as several others. When the sale kicks off, there will be a thread with people listing all the codes.

Each code can only be used once. You can use multiple codes, on multiple orders. The best bet is to build up a large order instead of ordering things as you think about them.

Another tip is to build your wish list in advance. Look what is on sale at the B&M's the week of the DDD sale, and DDD will usually match (on their webpage) the price, which you then will get an additional 20% off.

If you need DVD Suggestions you can always check out DVD Talk's Highest Rated DVDs (each have a handy link to DDD at the bottom

Look at Sam Walton, was a mega-billionaire, but he still drove a beat up pickup truck.
Exactly. This is definitely off topic, but for the people out there that have pre-conceived notions of "rich people", I highly recommend that you pick up a copy of The Millionaire Next Door. You can probably find it pretty cheap at Amazon, etc. A quick read, darn entertaining, and you'll learn some interesting facts and stats.

Yes, DDD doesn't seem to carry that for some reason.

Why is it that we've now had 2 threads and neither one has the actual codes posted in the first post? People coming to this thread are going to have no clue how to take the 20% off.

I finally got confirmation on the order I placed this morning - only "ULTRAVIOLET" was missing. Grrr. I don't want to re-order and get 2 copies, and I tried calling customer service and it just rings and rings.

I can't help that, but I can at least put them on the first page:

The valid codes I have found (most used in the last sale) are:

DD11
DVDSALE
DVDTALK
ESPN
SUPERSALE
USWEEKLY
USATODAY

I'm sure there are others that will work as well, but that should get us started tonight/tomorrow.

EDIT: Found another code (SUPERSALE)
PRICESEARCH should be good (from dvdps)

Wow, the amount of movies being purchased by some can be considered a ready-made-collection for some people. Its interesting to read what people are buying, there are some buying things I would take if given free and others have given me ideas of buying something I would not thought of, but must try to resist.

Also FYI, anyone thinking of purchasing Looney Toons Golden Collection Vol-1 or Vol-2, they are available at Costco (B&M) for ~$27 + tax.

Is FireFly - Complete series a good blind buy?

Absolutely -- I don't think I've found a single person yet who has watched the DVD set and not fallen in love with it. Including family members who don't like "sci-fi".

It's a bit of a sci-fi/western hybrid, but with great, well-rounded characters. There is an intentional attempt to avoid the "alien of the week/bumpy head" syndrome that seems to afflict much of recent sci-fi TV.

Because none of us have been able to and it's really annoying. I have no idea why DDD is not carrying them or hiding them.

In the same vein. I like Firefly, not much else Sci-Fi. How is Battlestar Galatica (the new series) as a blind buy?

If you haven't gotten an email confirmation, worry a little bit and go see it if it in your order history. If it hasn't shipped yet, don't worry.

Reservoir - did you get conformation? Does it show up in your order status?

Mine shows up and both but hasn't shipped yet. Not sure why it didn't ship today, I splurged for two-day shipping. But I'm not worried.

Battlestar Galactica is great, but it's not lighthearted at all. It's a very serious show.

Just got through. It would appear they can no longer GET "Ultraviolet" so anyone who has ordered it is SOL. They are going to take it off the site shortly.

I don't know if this has already been done, but you may want to e-mail them and request that they add those titles. I did that once in the past and they actually did add whatever I requested.

Yes it did and yes it does. I too payed for faster shipping as was curious why they haven't shipped yet, none of them are backordered
