Shatner wants to return Trek to it's "glory days"
Former Star Trek Captain William Shatner is hoping to bring the cult sci-fi show back to TV - he's writing a pilot for a prequel show.
The actor, who played Captain James T. Kirk in the original Star Trek series, wants to bring the glory days back to the show and is working on a treatment that will pre-date the first episode.
He says, "I'm writing a couple of books on the adolescent Captain Kirk/Spock thing as a prequel. It's also an idea for CBS to use as the next series of Star Trek."

Anything that doesn't remotely involve B&B will be worth checking out. After two straight Emmy wins, I think Shatner has more clout than he ever has. He might just pull it off.
But, another prequel?

Fans went ballistic when they got wind of the idea, and we got Star Trek VI instead...HOWEVER fans didn't realize they would have gotten Star Trek VI anyway..."Starfleet Academy" was an effort to do a different series of Star Trek films, but the fans thought Paramount was trying to replace the original crew on the big screen, so it never happened. When "Starfleet Academy" fell through, Bennett ended his relationship with the franchise.

All I can see is Shatner walking into a room all the while stating James T. Kirk! Self Defence. James T. Kirk!

I remember attending a talk that George Takei was giving at the University of Southern Maine around that time (1989? 90?) where he was encouraging everyone to write to Paramount and let them know that "recasting" the original crew was a bad idea.

Make that Star Fleet: Special Vulcan's Unit and you have a winner.
Shatner's first three books following Generations would have been money.
I just hope they do something good. Hell, I'd settle for something bad, so long as I get it.

Instead of looking back, they need to jump forward another 80 years in the trek time line. And give us ships with shield technology that WORKS this time and computers that don't blow up as soon as a meteor particle hits the nacelles. Geez, is it too much to ask this series to GROW?

How about a show about James T Kirk, leaping into people's bodies, and he has to put right what once went wrong with only the help of his hologram from the future, Spock?
