MusicTalk Draft Game - Semi-Finals (Down to the Wire!)

Welcome to round four of the MusicTalk Draft Tournament! In this thread, the players drafted a virtual “collection” of ten albums. Now, it is up to you, the MusicTalk community, to vote on which player has drafted the best collection.

For round 4, all the players have been randomly paired up. In order to vote, you need to reply to this post telling me who you think has the best lineup. Your vote will not count unless you vote on every pair!

In addition, once you post your votes, you CANNOT edit that post for any reason. Edited voting posts will not be counted.

Players in the game are also allowed to vote. Optionally, they are also allowed to post to this thread telling everybody why they think you should vote for their collection.

So, let the voting begin! Voting ends on Friday, November 11th, at the exact time of the timestamp of this post. Match-ups will be listed in the first reply to this post.

Good luck to all the participants!

Easy choices for me.

cdollaz
jimdrix

Congrats to everybody who made it this far. You guys definitely deserve it, even if we don't always share the same taste in music.

ROUND 3 STATS

Accuracy in the previous round went down a bit but is still pretty good as my picks were 75% accurate.

WINNERS, BY SELECTION OF "TOP ARTISTS" (Winners listed first)

01. cdollaz .... (3) vs BadlyDrawnBoy .. (2)
02. Apex Twin .. (2) vs illenium ....... (1)
03. DJLinus .... (1) vs jimdrix ........ (4)
04. mordred .... (1) vs maxfisher ...... (3)

Once again, having heavy hitters in your corner is what it's all about. In Round 3, the inclusion of "Top Artists" was 100% accurate. Esoteric might work for a few, but when you're dealing with dozens of voters, you have to stick with the classics.

WINNERS, BY CLASS

jimdrix ('76)

Apex Twin ('82), cdollaz ('84)

(ELIMINATED!)

maxfisher ('93)

Looks like The Old Fogeys got tired and went to bed. Out of the six originals, only one remains. Midlife Crises is faring as well, with two survivors (out of a class of 13). Gooodbye, Us Young Punks! No member of your class made it all the way to the end. And there's only maxfisher still Sitting At The Kids Table. It doesn't look like class membership helps you in the final rounds.

(For deviation, the sample size is now too small).

WINNERS BY VOTES GARNERED

- Apex Twin (85 overall)
- cdollaz (74 overall)
- maxfisher (73 overall)

Apex continues his lead with strong voting results.

Brought To You By Pennzoil

ROUND 4 PREDICTIONS

By Top Artists:
01. cdollaz vs maxfisher : tie
02. Apex Twin vs jimdrix : jimdrix

By Votes Garnered:
01. cdollaz vs maxfisher : tie
02. Apex Twin vs. jimdrix : Apex Twin

Here's where my magical powers of deduction fail me. cdollaz and maxfisher are in a statistical dead heat. Meanwhile, the stats point to jimdrix to win but who can deny Apex's popularity? Let's see how this one turns out.

This one's easy:

Apex Twin
maxfisher

Both are matched against stronger opponents in the earlier albums but the last picks of jimdrix and cdollaz just are not my style.

again, the bolded.

This Round’s Match-ups

1. cdollaz vs. maxfisher

rationale: i can't reward diversity in this match up. which makes it all the more difficult. very difficult indeed. maxfisher takes it mostly because i'm more familiar with his albums... plus, even though cdollaz' first two picks are personal faves, 69 Love Songs and Funeral especially are two of my more recent faves and discoveries. also, between a direct U2 match-up, maxfisher would take it by a hair.

2. Aphex Twin vs. jimdrix

rationale: again, this time i can't reward diversity, except this time it's the opposite - both lists are diverse. i'm more familiar with jimdrix's choices and head-to-head Revolver barely beats Rubber Soul. jimdrix also snagged "Baba O'Riley", which even though it's overplayed... it's deservedly overplayed and is one of my favorite "pumps-me-up" songs.

ugh, this one is not easy!

1. cdollaz - took until the 2nd to last round for you to have a tough challenge. fortunately, your picks are still better. even if only slightly.
2. Aphex Twin - even though i didn't vote for you last round, this time you're the clear choice.

1. cdollaz (London Calling!)
2. jimdrix (I prefer Rubber Soul over Revolver and Hendrix over JB, but the rest of this list is stronger).

1. cdollaz, clearly
2. jimdrix, but this one is very tough for me. Both Beatles albums cancel out (those are 2 phenomenal albums). While I want to go with Aphex for the jazz, the Miles album especially, I just don't know a number of artists on his list, and jimdrix's selections are solid top to bottom. I'm sorry Miles and Trane.
