What happened to 'Duma'?

I had hoped to see the new Carroll Ballard movie, which I thought got decent critical praise, but got theatrically shafted by Warner Bros. Warner's hasn't even announced a video release date. Did anyone see this?

I saw it back in May in Phoenix. The release was stuttered because WB didn't have faith in it. Ebert's review of the film kept it alive for a second limited release a couple months back, but that didn't take either.

It's a nice, quiet family film. Great animal footage.

I got to take my family to a FREE screening of Duma about 2 months ago. The free screenings were to get a good word of mouth generating for the movie so that when it was released in Los Angeles and a few other cities the following week. I guess the plan was to expand the release if it did well enough in those cities. I'm guessing it didn't do well enough. It was great family movie so it's too bad it didn't get a larger release.

They already release a barebone edition of the DVD in Asia. I already have one copy. I haven't had the chance to watch it though. From what I heard, it's a very very nice movie.

I want to see this. One thing that's probably hurting it is the title.

Yeah...don't know what they could have done about that....it was based on a book called "How it Was With Dooms"....not sure if that would been any better or not.

according to Landmark Theatre's website it looks like Warner's is once again giving this a film a chance and releasing to select cities/theatres this month.

I'm glad someone bring this thread back to life. I finally saw watch the DVD last week and I was stunned by its beauty. The story is pretty much similar to Ballard's other film Fly Away Home, but the execution is better. If they're really going to show it on cinema, then this is a very very good news.

I saw this in San Antonio in mid-April. Never did see it show up around me here in Indiana. It was very good, IMO, and did have, in fact, some excellent animal footage. It's unfortunate that it has been so mishandled by they studio...
