Just moved...need to update my speakers...need adivce

Ok, I just moved into a bigger apartment and I need to replace speakers for my home theatre, either my floor standing or rear satalities. Right now I only have KLH floor standings model 912B 250 watts that ive had since HS grad. (9 years ago) I then have rear surrounds and a powered sub to finish it all off.

What im wondering is should I replace my floor standing with maybe bookshelves on stands? I know BB has Sony's on sale right now (I know, not the best) but maybe I could also look at some JBL's. Problem is is that I have to get them from BB since i have a $100 gift card so anything I get would have to be from BB.

Or should I keep the floor standing and just put the rears on stands instead of securing them to either wall like i was going to do?

What do you think? Any advice would be appreciateed... I know the stands alone are around $100, so that would be an extra investment. Im just wondering about the speakers for now...

What's wrong with them? Speakers haven't changed in basic design since before I was born, so there isn't much need to "update". If they are broken or you are sick of the size or want to move to matching speakers (if they aren't), those would be decent reasons. But there is usually more quality to be gained by updating a source or receiver or display.

If you are looking to upgrade the quality, BB is not going to cut it. KLH aren't horrible for the price range, and are about equal with anything else I've seen at BB. If you want a quick fix that will amaze you and make all the speakers sound better, replace the sub with a serious one.

What are you considering for price range?

My advice would mirror that from Spiky. If there is nothing wrong with what you have then take this time to become more knowledgeable. Save your money, take some cd's to some audio stores in your area and actually sit down and listen to some speakers.

You'll be amazed!
