Dracula ready for close-up
Anderson to adapt, helm 'Castlevania'

By MICHAEL SPEIER

Steven Paul's Crystal Sky Pictures has bought the rights to long-running Konami vidgame franchise "Castlevania" and has set helmer Paul W.S. Anderson ("Alien vs. Predator") to adapt and direct.

Paul and Crystal Sky president Benedict Carver will produce along with Anderson and Jeremy Bolt, who are partnered in Impact Pictures.

Pic will focus on the origins of Dracula and the uprising of the Belmont Clan, a vampire-slaying family who supposedly become humanity's last hope.

"Castlevania" was first released in 1986. The latest version, "Castlevania: Curse of Darkness," comes out Stateside on Nov. 8.

Crystal Sky has Columbia's "Ghost Rider," starring Nicolas Cage and Eva Mendes, in post-production.

Impact Pictures pics include "Mortal Kombat" and the "Resident Evil" franchise.

Production is slated to start in mid-2006; no casting has been set.
Seems he didn't have a fun enough time killing off my dreams when he made Resident Evil and Alien Vs Predator. This time, buddy, it's personal!

Damn, I knew what this was from the thread title.

Personal? C'mon.. as much as I love Castlevania I could give a rat's ass about a movie based on it. I'm not playing the game's for their complex stories. Oh no! Dracula resurrected, let's go kill him! With these things you just have to accept that some suit is trying to make some quick cash off an existing name (the entire mantra at which EA Games even exists) so you can never expect anything good out of it.

Well....are we talkin step-sisters or... jk
The point I was making, is that with 5+ video game movies in the works, Boll would have snatched this one up at some point, and I do think Anderson is somewhat better than Uwe

Shouldn't there be a poll attached to this?

Who would you rather prefer for Castlevania?
Anderson
Uwe

I'd vote "I respect the franchise too much to even care about a movie version."

I hope we get good Paul WS Anderson ("Event Horizon") instead of bad Paul WS Anderson ("everything else").

Yes, because Christopher Nolan would be able to make a watchable Castlevania movie. Some franchises should stick with their medium.

Could have been worst if they have him do a Metal Gear Solid movie.

I can't say I care all thatmuch. I like Castlevania, but there's nothign in it that begs for a movie. Unlike AVP and RE, I'm not too concerned.

Though, my suggestion to Paul Anderson? Make the first side scrolling movie! Your movie is goign to suck anyway, might as well make it like the game...heh.

Paul WS Anderson is a technically capable director (despite zero style). Compared to Uwe Boll, he comes across as... uh... at least Brett Ratner. When he gets his hands on writing the script, however, that's another matter entirely.

Can we not justify this by bringing up Uwe Boll?

Your plots are as senseless as your soul. Mankind ill-needs a director such as you!

Who gives a shit.

Just avoid it like the plague like all movies based on video games.

Nothing worth wasting time being annoyed over.

I guess it could be worse (not much though). I havnt really played castlevania in a while but i remember too much back story of the games. I guess this means there is less for him to screw up?

Are we assuming that this movie helmed by any other director would be good?
