Creature From the Black Lagoon remake is a go
Just read that Universal has hired Breck Eisner (Sahara) to direct the film. I believe this is still being written, but I'm guess this will start shooting next year. Seems to make sense for Universal to start giving their classic monsters an update.

I really would like to see an updated Creature flick, could be great...but Breck Eisner!?! I thought Sahara was vastly overrated (by people I have talked to...critics weren't fans if I recall) and thought that the movie was sorely lacking in pacing and vision...which does not bode well for his abilities as a director. Hopefully he'll prove me wrong...

gil man better still be gil man or its gonna piss off every COTBL fan in the world
update it so it doesn't look so clunky on land but gilman was awesome already in the underwater scenes.
if they change that into some "the Cave" cgi monster no classic fans will give it the time of day.
Peter jacksons remake of Kong is the perfect example of how to recreate a classic monster movie.

Dated though it may be, I'm a HUGE fan of the original. I'll try to be open-minded but I have a sinking feeling it'll be like the "Godzilla" remake a few years back. You can't mess with the Gill-Man, dammit.

C'mon, Groucho, you had Julie Adams in a white swimsuit! How bad could it be?
OK, it might not have had the best plot or active, and admittedly the story consists of a lot of Julie Adams swimming around with the Creature staring longingly up at her tight, voluptuous form, but... but... I lost my point.

Damn, I was hoping Hollywood would wait for me to remake this film. Actually I had the idea of redoing all three films. I'd probably deviate from the second film a lot, but I really like the idea behind the third film. They would be somewhat in the vain of The Thing and The Fly remakes. And I definitely would keep it as a suited up Gil-man, with little if no CGI. I think there is a lot of potential with a remake, the story allows for a lot to say.

Well, those aren't exactly hack scripts, so it might be decent. Also, Bill Paxton definitely has the chops for this kind of movie; he fits well into action adventure.

I can definitely see Paxton in the Carlson role. I wonder who they'll select as the guy who "wants to capture the creature and make millions!"
I'm just glad Stephen Sommers is not part of this at all.

Well, none of those movies from that era really stand out in terms of thespian art or any real standards; they're just fun to watch. I more or less like this one and the others for the nostalgic factor.

Yes, Universal is STILL planning to remake this damn film. There is an update. They have now hired David Kajganich, who wrote The Invasion, The Stand, Pet Sematary and IT remakes, to write a new script.
This news was reported last October, so maybe, finally, we'll get an official announcement of a director this year and this will actually start filming at some point.
