Interesting USA today photo "enhancement":

Printed USA Today Photo:

Origional:

Here was USA Today's "excuse":

Editor's note: The photo of Condoleezza Rice that originally accompanied this story was altered in a manner that did not meet USA TODAY's editorial standards. The photo has been replaced by a properly adjusted copy. Photos published online are routinely cropped for size and adjusted for brightness and sharpness to optimize their appearance. In this case, after sharpening the photo for clarity, the editor brightened a portion of Rice's face, giving her eyes an unnatural appearance. This resulted in a distortion of the original not in keeping with our editorial standards.

OK so come on now.. Cropping does do distortions but not like that.

No, but

"adjusted for brightness and sharpness to optimize their appearance. In this case, after sharpening the photo for clarity, the editor brightened a portion of Rice's face, giving her eyes an unnatural appearance. "

would. You can tell the whole picture was adjusted, not just the eyes. Sounds reasonable to me.

Booga Booga!

Obviously they did it to demonize her. After all, she looks so pleasant in the original picture.

I could have done a better job than that. Just look at her right eye. Good God, they should fire the person for doing crappy work.
