The Simpsons get exported to the Middle East
Did anyone see this article? It gives some details of the (drastic) changes that were neccessary to make the show palatable to an Arab audience (like turing beer into soda and dropping references to bacon).

I love that they cut Moe's Bar out entirely. Because, y'know, that was never really a big part of the show.

they had a story on this last night on ABC News. Al Jean (one of the creators of the Simpsons) said this really isn;t the Simpsons anymore since they changed it

I don't get it... they're importing the show because "there is a huge audience for American popular culture", but they have seemingly de-Americanized the entire show. At the rate they're going I'm surprised they aren't cutting out Krusty for being a Jew.

They haven't totally de-Americanized the show -- they just did things like turning Homer's beer into soda.
Personally, I think it's hilarious. I hope they do South Park next, and I hope we someday see DVDs of the chopped episodes with English subtitles.

So are they going to show Homer being drunk from drinking all those "sodas"? Maybe they'll cut out Mr. Burns because he's a Republican? And Apu because he's Hindu?
Would've made more sense to just remake it from scratch.

Homer: Marge I have some kahk for you
Marge: Homer, you shouldn't have them out in the living room!
Homer: Oh, but marge it's mmmmmm tasty kahk.
Marge: Now I have to go get more kahk....
