I know that Monster Cable often gets criticized (rightly) for having overpriced products, etc. But their surge products tend to be high-quality. I'd definitely consider this:

I have 4 of these Belkins from buy.com. Last year a few storms knocked the power out, and they all did their job. Just to be safe, I did flip the switch to the off position when the power was still out. They have a $150k Equipment Protection and a Lifetime warranty, but I haven't tested either. The best part is the two end connectors, they're great for PC speaker bricks. I also like the wall plug, it's sideways and works well for tight spaces behind/beside furniture. I'm not taking advantage of the space on this outlet, but you can see how it works.

I have been using Panamax for over 10 years without a problem. My current theater has two Panamax protectors in it.

I dislike Panamax because I have bought two MOD-UTP modules to protect my Ethernet line and one of them failed in two months, without any storm around. I had no warranty because Panamax offers warranty only when the power line is protected with Panamax products, too. So I won't buy a third Panamax product. Their Customer Relations did not bother to answer.

Can't say I disagree!

Not only is the surge suppression a plus, but I love the battery backup. On numerous occasions, it has allowed us to keep an eye on the weather via TV during bad storms. When we have bad rain, we lose the satellite signal, but not OTA. But if the power flashes, the receiver re-starts, and the first thing it does is look for satellite signal. If it can't establish a signal, we can't get back to OTA.

I think it looks kinda cool too.

They all say this in the warranty. You will find the same if you switch to Monster or a lesser brand.

Is there someplace else to buy these at a decent price? I have no Costco around here and BB has these for about $200.

I think I need to get a UPS for my DLP.

BB has this model on sale this week, but they don't actually stock this at any local stores. I considered one of their Geek Squad units so I could use the 12% coupon I have, but wasn't sure if those are decent for theater settings, or mostly for PCs, or are interchangeable either way.

It looks like the BB unit has a larger VA rating, and equipment warranty. The latter nt really be useful, since most of the time it is just claimed through insurance.

They often get one-off electronics at incredible prices in their stores. I've seen some pretty wacko deals there.

I've never seen it on the website, buy my local Costco still had them when I was there Thursday. They've had them in store for at least a couple years.
